When is offline music played?

Solved!

When is offline music played?

Hello!  I have a question.

I have downloaded some of my playlists to listen to offline.  When is this triggered?  Meaning if Im driving down the road listening to one of my offline lists, is it playing locally, or is it playing from the cloud?

Trying to keep track of my data

Thanks!

Downloaded songs doesn`t use additional data

The only data that can be used is when Spotify loads information at start up.

If you want to restrict that, you can use Spotify offline:

  1. Tap Your Library .
  2. Tap Settings .
  3. Tap Playback.
  4. Switch Offline on.

Hey @Jb3rgman, thanks for posting!

Your offline songs are downloaded to the Spotify app on your device.

For more information, please check: Listen Offline | Save to SD card

The files are Ogg Vorbis format encrypted by Spotify, so no other media scanner will recognize them as music files.

Thank you for the relpy.  I understand they are downloaded locally and encrypted.  But if they are downloaded and I am not on wifi.  Will the songs consume data or will they play locally if my phone is not in airplane mode?

Thank you.  I just found this myself!!  So if I dont have offline selected then it will only use data on initial startup?

Appreciate your quick response!

Yeah, you`ve answered this quickly, before my reply!
And yes, it`ll use a little data only on start up, or if you browsing in spotify or play undownloaded songs.
Happy listening : )
