Cannot Disable Local Files Syncing

Cannot Disable Local Files Syncing

I'm running the Mac OS X 8.5 with the Spotify client version 0.9.7.16.g4b197456

I uncheck all the 'local files' boxes in the preference but everytime I startup Spotify it tries to scan an import my local files.

I feel this is an invasion of my privacy AND a legitamate bug.

PLEASE HELP

Hey there, welcome to the Community. With those boxes all unticked, is it ever finding any local files that then get imported into Spotify?

To judge my musical taste, check out my last.fm.

If you can find the corresponding prefs file on Mac, someone posted a work around for Windows here:

In response to the 2 posts above

1) Yes it does find files to import (many of them)

2) I did find that hack/workaround but it does not work for me. (I changed the pref file in /Users/me/Library/Application Support/Spotify/Users/MySpotifyUsername & and made that file 'read only'. But that made no difference to my problem)

This is also hapenning on my Mac 10.8. Workaround above didn't work. I see that this issue has been around forever. Clearly Spotify doesn't realy care about user privacy. So lame...

The best workaround I found to protect my privacy is:

Close the Spotify App and run the following commands in Terminal:

$ cd ~/Library/Application\ Support/Spotify/Users/your-username/

$ rm local-files.bnk

$ sudo touch local-files.bnk

Enter Admin Password

$ sudo chmod a-w local-files.bnk

$ sudo chwon root:wheel .

$ exit

The net result is that the Spotify App will still scan your files but it won't be able to save the results to disk. Sadly, this will happen every time you open the App and the scan will start from the beginning 😞

I'm new to Spotify and just realiased that it's been scanning all my drives. This is a VERY UNACCEPTABLE INVASION OF PRIVACY!

It should only scan any folders that are specifically added.

God knows what else is being scanned or dumped on our machines! Tantamount to a trojan! Very dissapointed this has been known for so long and not addressed.

Do you care SPOTIFY??
