Turn off spacebar pause function

Does anyone know how I can turn off the spacebar pause function?  Every time I try to search for a track or artist and hit the space key it stops/starts my music.  This has only just started happening and it's driving me nuts!!  Also I'm unable to put spaces between words in teh search bar any more! Any ideas welcomed!!

 Never had this issue using spotify on my PCs (Windows 7, now 10).

Typing in search bar is fine, except when I need to hit space cause you know - words. Upon hitting space, whatever is playing on spotify pauses and there is no space made in the search bar. Ive had that happen on youtube videos but that was rectified by pressing on any other button after hitting the pause button via mouse. Problem persists however on spotify inspite of clicking on other buttons and closing out of the window even.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one with this problem! This just started for me this morning even when this wasn't occurring last week.

This just started happening to me today for the first time too. I didn't do anything to my settings either. I would love to find a solution so I can go back to using my space bad for typing purposes.

Same here, as of today. I have to search for multi-word bands/songs/albums in another tab and copy them in. Super annoying!

I'm trying to type a space when searching for an artist in the web player search and the spacebar is only playing/pausing the music.

Oh, I thought this was just me since my keyboard is kind of gimpy sometimes! Yeah, this is really irritating.

Thank God this isn't just me! I know it's not easy but I've been able to succesfully search on my phone then play on my desktop. So annoying, please fix asap Spotify!

They probably tried to add some sort of keyboard shortcut functionality and botched it. The whole page is basically hijacking your spacebar and using it to play and pause the music as a shortcut but isn't unlocking it when attempting to search.

Same problem for me. Tried logging out and then back in and have restarted Chrome. Nothing seems to be working.

Alas, same issue in Firefox. Not that it really matters, I haven't had playback for the last couple days anyway! (Both on Mac and PC)
