Spotify plays on the wrong device

Spotify plays on the wrong device

When I get into my car and my phone connects to bluetooth, my account starts to play at my work computer. I can't reach my phone in my car to fiddle with device settings, so it won't stream to my car audio system at all. When I get back to my desk, it now insists on playing from my phone, despite using my computer to press Play.

Hey @thiquadros,

Thanks for reaching out.

What happens when you close the Spotify app on your computer and enable "Local device visibility" in the app's settings on your phone? Do you still get the same behavior? Please share your device models, OS versions and Spotify versions so we can try to recreate the issue on your end.

We'll be on the lookout for your reply.

This issue was intermittent, so I'll try it a few times today.  But for now, I started a song on the computer, paused it and closed it, went to car and it resumed at the right spot and played correctly from my phone over bluetooth.  Turned off car, went back to desktop, opened app on desktop and hit play, it resumed playing on my phone instead of computer (but it had the green bar at the bottom indicating that it was intentionally connected to a different device).

Is there a way to disable the Connect to device option unless I manually enable it?  And instead only play locally on whatever device is asking it to play?

Versions, Phone is Pixel 9 with version 8.9.80.581, computer is Spotify for Windows (64 bit) 1.2.47.364.gf06e5cee

Hey @chrisma2n,

Thanks for the reply & for all additional details!

It sounds like the app might still be open on your phone, which is why the music continues to play from there. You can change the current playback device at any time, however. Just head over to Connect to a device on the desktop app and select your computer.

While you can't manually switch off the Connect feature, you may find this idea about being able to deactivate Connect interesting, so feel free to have a look if you haven't already.

We hope this clears things up!

Unfortunately, this is still happening, and the problem does not get resolved by the Connect to a Device because I am driving when this occurs.  I cannot access my phone to change this setting when I am driving.  It plays music in my office instead of my car, despite my car saying which song is playing and what part of the track it is playing (in my office).

If you cannot manually switch off the Connect feature, then there is currently no solution to this problem.

Hey @chrisma2n,

Thanks for the reply!

Can you try logging out from your Spotify account after you leave your office? This way the music playback in your car shouldn't be interrupted. Also, does anyone at your office have access to your Spotify account or the streaming device there, just to rule out the option that someone is changing the output device from there? If that's the case, then I also recommend logging out from everywhere - you can find the steps in this article.

Keep us posted.
