I have a PC that has been operating perfectly with spotify installed up until today. I installed it by using the Downloaded Executable found on the Spotify website.
I have already tried numerous debugging steps, which are outlined in subsequent comments. I sure hope there's a fix, because this is completely unacceptable from a company like Spotify.
- When clicking the Spotify taskbar icon or opening from the start menu, I get a brief windows spinning wheel and the Spotify.exe clearly shows up in my Task Manager, then it quickly disappears and nothing happens. No window shows up.
- I've uninstalled Spotify and verified no AppData/Local/Spotify and AppData/Roaming/Spotify exist for my user account
- When I reinstall Spotify, the splash screen window DOES show up, which prompts me with "Millions of songs. Free on Spotify ... [ Log in ]". Clearly Windows is capable of opening
- Once I sign into my account, Spotify will no longer function and thus the issue is encountered.
- I have tried turning off hardware acceleration and clearing my app data. Clearing app data allows me to open Spotify, yet now I'm no longer logged in due to my auth session being deleted.
- I have done multiple PC restarts. No spotify issues on any of my other devices.
- Spotify for Web is working fine, but this is unacceptable and my desktop app was working yesterday.
- Some threads say that I need a windows media pack installed. I have verified this is installed
- I have created a fresh Windows 11 account on my machine and proceeded to install Spotify and then log in to my account. I was able to reproduce the exact same behavior.
I'm dealing with the same exact issue. The only possible difference is that I'm on Windows 11 Pro.
I've tried installing it via the executable and through the Windows store. Yesterday, when I first installed it on this new PC, I was able to log in and see the app. This morning, after firing up my machine, I'm experiencing the same exact issues.
I've tried repairing, clearing out the app data, and reinstalling. Once I clear the app data or reinstall a fresh copy, the app opens. Clicking the login button opens my browser and successfully logs me in. Then the app disappears and can't be reopened.
Hey folks,
Thanks for reaching out!
Can you try changing the proxy type by clicking on Settings as seen on the screenshots:
Can you also try running the app in Safe Mode or Safe Mode with Networking to rule out any issues with your default Windows settings and device drivers?
Keep us posted.
I'm on Windows 11 Education, which appears to be comparable to Pro & Enterprise.
I just reinstalled Spotify and it appears to be working now, but I haven't done any troubleshooting or changes to my machine since I last posted. Clearly this is an intermittent issue.
I'd be happy to try this, however Spotify just started working again for me on Windows 11 Education. As noted in another reply here, I have performed no additional tasks or changes to my machine or Spotify since it was not working yesterday.
This seems to be an intermittent issue. Honestly I hope it breaks again so I can try these solutions because I'm not very happy that it resolved itself with no meaningful solution to the problem.
I just reinstalled Spotify and set the Proxy Type to "No proxy". That seemed to have resolved the issue.
I have had the same exact issue for a couple of days, also on Windows 11. I have tried to changing the proxy settings, no luck. The app just don't want to open on my pc anymore.. 😞
It's a shame, I always listen to spotify while I am on my pc..
Hey folks,
@cseitz and @jeffts, glad to hear everything is working as expected now.
@TheStig73, can you confirm you have also tried clean reinstalling the app? If you're using the version that's available on our website, try the app from Microsoft Store and vice versa.
Also, let us know if the web player works on your end and try temporarily disabling any VPN or antivirus software (if you're using any).
Let us know how it goes.
Same here. I changed the setting to No Proxy and still can't open Spotify on my pc. It's been this way all week. Very frustrating!
Hey there @N9tsuk9,
Thanks for posting in the Community and welcome.
We hope you don't mind us answering in English as this is the official language of the forum.
We understand you're having issues with using the Spotify desktop app. We'd suggest you perform a clean reinstall of the app on the affected computer. By doing that, the app can be up-to-date, and you can make sure the cache is not leading to the app not working. You can follow the steps in this article to do it.
If the above doesn't do the trick, we'd like to gather some additional info. Please send us:

installing via spotify site doesn't even let me access the image try again and the other one I did via windows app store. I cleaned the whole pc, virus scan, updates, reboot etc. Thanks for reading
Hello and thank you for your feedback, I did as the article explained without success but the web player works. I did not have a Windows update before this happened. I had cleared the Spotify cache data given its slowness when opening, but the problem occurred 1 week later. I never logged out of the application on Windows, however I disconnected the PC output listening device on my Android application to listen on it. Since then, it is as on the screenshots sent. By clicking on try again, I return to the connection and vice versa. I do not understand why I am asked to log in on the browser.
