All platforms - Dislike an item and avoid it

Context:
Users do not like all music/genres/books
Users are presented with items they do not want to hear and will skip over these these items, even regularly. It is correct that Spotify does not recognise skipped songs as disliked, however regular skipping is frustrating to users.

Problem:

Spotify introduced a 'hide' function - which is not accessible on desktop/ browser platforms..
It is ONLY accessible via 3 dots on IOSmobile app when you have the song expanded in view (not in playlist/queue view)

Problem Area impacted:
individual songs, albums, playlists, artists, music categories/genres, podcasts, audiobooks. etc

Benefit:

As a casual or perpetual Spotify listener

I want the ability to stamp items as disliked, ability to identify a disliked item and manage the dislikes items
So that I will never hear the disliked items within Spotify again unless I remove the dislike tag

Need: Users need the ability to

  • 'dislike' any item with a button
  • 'dislike' any item from either queue/playlist/expanded or collapsed song view,
  • 'dislike' any item from desktop, browser or mobile app
  • identify an item as disliked via an icon/indicator
  • review list of disliked items
  • remove 'dislike' from any item
  • AI to identify frequently skipped songs
    • prompt if the song is disliked
    • check to 'never ask again'

Benefit:

Happier listening users
Improved customisable listening experience

That's a great suggestion, "Not Interested" could be the name of the icon, - this feature could help to avoid and refine personalization.

I agree. There are songs that I don't like and I don't want to hear it anymore and I would like to have the option of deleting it out of my library of songs

Strong_Dislike

This is such a basic feature. Why is it missing? There must be more to this story.

That's a BIG thing missing from Spotify. I absolutely despise what's popular in my country. I have never listened to it, but I'm flooded with that in my front page...

I came here to suggest the same thing, more-or-less. The "remove recommendation" option on Desktop when using Smart Shuffle (another feature I absolutely hate, Enhanced was so much better,) doesn't actually do anything. You click it, and Spotify is like "We won't recommend this song in this playlist anymore."

But guess what's playing a few songs later?

I have removed the recommendation for several songs over the past couple of hours, and yet they keep coming back as recommendations. I need full customizability of my playlists, they each have very specific vibes and I really would appreciate it if when I tell spotify "not this one," that it actually takes that into account and respects it, because currently it does absolutely nothing.

This would be helpful because even the hide song feature doesn’t even fully work. Sometimes when I’m listening to an album with a song I have hidden in it it still plays the song even though it is hidden.

Came to suggest this, because it's absolutely necessary. I'm getting songs in Daily Mix that are so far removed from anything else I listen to, and there's no way to consistently prevent them from appearing again. I skip them, I try to remove them, but there's no consistent, permanent preventative function.

There should absolutely be a feature to block certain artists or especially people in general from podcasts, etc. Would love to be able to block the artist/person so that I don't have to keep scrolling past their stuff when I have no intention of clicking on it. Also, it should help the algorithm know what to stop pushing on my suggestion lists.

Yes, PLEASE implement this. This feature has been missing for over a decade.

For the "hide song" feature, I get the idea, maybe, of adding a way to remove a song from a public playlist per user - fine, that makes sense, if the user doesn't want to hear that song on the specific playlist for whatever reason. But this seems like a more advanced version of a "dislike" feature and that it was developed out of order. A much more core and obviously useful feature to have created would have been a "dislike" feature.

For songs that I actually strongly dislike, I have no option for Spotify to just never play that song because I dislike it.

To have implemented a feature to "dislike-ish" a song but not to permanantly blacklist said song has always confused me.

An important thing to include for this feature is to make it apply to all entity types - artists, songs, albums, whatever - anything that can algorithmically come up via autoplay/radio functionality.

As a user who uses Spotify most of the day every single day, I run into this frustration of having to manually skip tracks multiple times a day, every day. This is particularly annoying when I don't readily have access to player controls (phone in pocket, computer acrsos the room) or am simply focused on something and "that annoying saxophone has suddenly invaded my home again".

Take into account the fact that the "hide song" feature is defficient in multiple ways:

1) Only applies to a single context; every single other context in which that song appears (and believe me, it will appear again) have to be "reminded" that I don't like this song.

2) Is not available in all contexts - random playlists I find, etc.

3) Is not available on all platforms - Spotify for Windows, for instance, does not seem to possess this feature, anywhere - if it does, it's not in any of the contexts I use regularly.

4) As I type this, a song just came on that, you guessed it, I strongly dislike, and now I have to stop typing to go change it.

I'm happy to write the users stories for this feature. I'm your target user!

Hope this helps!
