Spotify app is skipping after a few seconds on Samsung TVs

We've received reports that the Spotify app is skipping after a few seconds, with multiple mentions of Samsung TVs.  The reports note that tracks are playing without audio on the Samsung TV devices, and trouble-shooting has already been tried.

Hey folks,

Thank you for reporting this to us. An issue has been identified regarding skipping on Samsung TVs. The right folks are looking into this and working on a solution.

We're not able to provide an exact timeline for a fix, but we'd recommend always keeping your Samsung TV's firmware and also the Spotify app up to date. This way you will ensure you're on the latest version and will receive the fix as soon as it's out.

For anyone experiencing this with a different TV brand, make sure to share your details in this thread.

Thanks!

I had the same problem, no sound and endless skipping of playlist on my android tv app. I solved it in my setup and i believe this post is the solution, because i can toggle the error. It's a home network problem. My setup: I have an internet fiber modem/router and behind it a TPlink deco mesh system. This runs in Router mode (default for many devices). Several android/web instances of spotify are running on this mesh network. When changing the Deco system to Acces Point mode (thus expanding the network from the fibermodem/router) the problem dissapeared instantly. Switching back to router mode initiated the problem again. What also worked was connecting the TV with wifi of utp cable to the Deco system when in router mode.

Multiple spotify instances on the same network are communicating with eachother when running from the same internet ip adress. The problem occurs when a spotify device on layer 2 (which is able to connect to layer 1) but the spotify device on layer 1 cannot connect to layer 2 due to the inaccessable router settings when in router mode -> ERROR! skipping fail etc initiated.

The setup when NOT working: (Android TV directly is the ISP modem)

[ISPMODEM]                 Android tv is cutoff from the home network due to router mode of layer 2.
|   |__ [ANDROID TV/BX + spotify] other Ip range eg: 192.168.0.x] [LAYER 1]
|
|___[ROUTER HOME NETWORK] __ [Phone + spotify] IP range eg: 192.178.2.x] [LAYER 2] ** ROUTER MODE ***
          |___________________________ [Tablet + spotify] IP range eg: 192.178.2.x]
          |___________________________ [Printers/PC's etc] IP range eg: 192.178.2.x]

What is working:

[ISPMODEM]                                   every device same IP range (router in Acces Point mode)
|   |_____ [ANDROID TV/BX + spotify] Ip range eg: 192.168.0.x] [LAYER 1]
|
|________[ROUTER HOME NETWORK] _____ [Phone + spotify] IP range eg: 192.168.0.x] [LAYER 2] *** AP mode
                  |______________________________ [Tablet + spotify] IP range eg: 192.168.0.x]
                  |______________________________[Printers/PC's etc] IP range eg: 192.168.0.x]

Also Working:

[ISPMODEM]
|                                                  every device behind the router, same network range
|                 *** Router Mode ***
|________[ROUTER HOME NETWORK] __ [Phone + spotify] IP range eg: 192.168.2.x]
                  |___________________________ [Tablet + spotify] IP range eg: 192.168.2.x]
                  |___________________________ [Printers/PC's etc] IP range eg: 192.168.2.x]

                  |___________________________ [ANDROID TV/BX + spotify] same range: 192.168.2.x]

SOLUTION:

Basically all registered devices (including the (android) TV) must be on the same network AND in the same ip range.

For a very long time, the last track in a playlist has cut off the last few seconds on both Samsung and Roku TVs.  And the timing has been skipping forward and overlapping, lyrics ahead of the audio, etc.  This goes back to September/October 2023.

Hello @Kiril , any update on this? It is impacting our user experience, since Music is a critical component.

I'm not sure if it the same issue, however I am noticing 'skips' of no play during playback.  It has happened on ios and android also pc desktop.  I have a fast internet connection as well so I'm confident that it is not that.  It is very irritating obviously.

Anyone found a working solution yet? Tried to change the DNS to 8.8.8.8 and for a minute, that worked. Didn't last long though, and I'm back to where I started. Quite frustrating, I have to say 😞

Any update on a fix for this?

Hi @Kiril any update on a fix as it’s very annoying? Please let me know many thanks

I have tried turning everything off and on again, uninstalling and reinstalling the Spotify app, restarting the wifi network and signing in an and out of the Spotify app. However, it looks to be a software glitch. It continually skips every song at exactly 00:09 seconds in without any sound coming out. With every skip it seems to think I’ve signed in and welcomes me back. This is the only app I am experiencing this issue with on my TV. This happens no matter if I try to play songs from my phone to my TV or if I go straight to my TV, by passing my Spotify phone app. My Spotify phone app is working normally. Tried to attach a video but you don’t support iPhone video’s; .mov?

This is really annoying. Couldn't get a single tone out of the Spotify App for Samsung TV yet. Immediately starts skipping songs.
