Album Artwork does not update on local files for specific songs

My Question or Issue -

The album artwork for songs in local files does not update. The playlist has the image assigned and at least one song has the artwork. But the rest don't.

Covers can be added manually in the metadata of the local files. 

There are different programs that can do this, but we're unable to recommend any third-party software ourselves.
In any case, the covers should appear after being added to the respective metadata of the local files 🙂

In case they don't, you can try toggling local files off and on again to see if that would make a difference.

Hello Vasil, thanks for responding. But I don’t think you completely understand the problem. 

1) The album has art work on it.

2) some songs have artwork on them.

3) other songs do not have the same artwork associated with them.

this seems more like a bug in my opinion.

Even if the files display the image in other media players, it is possible that some metadata might still not be read by Spotify.
This depends on the source of the file and how it is coded, so different files might not behave the same way.

I think you are not understanding the problem. The image displays on certain song on the SPOTIFY media player while it won’t for other songs on the same Spotify media player.


* Image displays on Spotify for album
* Same image displays on some songs on Spotify
* Same image does NOT display on other songs.

If it is feature to display album art on songs for local files, then this is a bug. If it is not a feature to display album art on a song for local files, then turn off whatever is causing this happen intermittently.

Hi, Ive recently added album art to lots of my local files but for some reason the art shows up when looking at the in the playlist but when I start playing it the art is nowhere to be seen on either my lock screen or on the bar at the bottom of the app that says it's playing. Please help me fix this

Album thumbnails for local files aren't showing in my library list (favourited songs) on. However, album art AND thumbnails are visible in the 'local files' folder, and when I click on the local file song in my library, and open the song so that its in full screen, the album art IS also visible. How do I fix this so that I can see the album thumbnails in my library?

My Question or Issue

When a local files song is added to Liked songs, its album art is not shown in the Liked songs list. However, when you play it, and if the songs goes to 'full screen', the album art loads.
Strangely, this issue manifests itself only when a local files song is added to liked songs. When added to any other regular playlist, the album art is working.

I tried removing the file and adding it again but it's the same. I also tried on my ipad and it's the same.
