My Question or Issue

Everytime I open the app it switches playback to repeat/loop. It's not much of an issue if I hit play on a playlist. But I generally don't use playlists except at work. When I search a song and click it to play, its automatically on repeat. Since the "playlist" for one song is well... One song. That means it defaults to repeating the same song. I know the "solution" is to just uncheck the loop. But it's a hassle to open the player and change it every single time I start the app with a new session. And I'm usually not thinking about that. I'm thinking "I wanna listen to Torna a Casa and the rest of the songs the algorithm suggests like it."  And it makes it essentially impossible to start listening hands free.

I have a Samsung 24+ with Android 14.  It happens whether I'm on Bluetooth or just playing through my phone's speaker.

This is what shows on the link you shared. โ€ƒ๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿค”

This problem has been annoying me for well over a year. Any time I connect to a bluetooth device Spotify automatically enables repeat. Since this hasn't been fixed yet I can only assume that's intended and not a bug. You just want us to keep mindlessly listening to the same thing over and over again instead of letting the music ever stop. Not expecting this to ever get fixed, but thought I'd include my experience as well.

Hi Ivelina --
Did you see five months ago on March 20th 2024 that Moderator OscarDC wrote essentially the same exact thing you did?

Hey folks,

Thank you for keeping in contact and for the shared info.

We can confirm that the right folks are aware of the situation and are currently working on a solution for this issue. At the moment, we don't have a specific date for this to be resolved, but we'll make sure to post any relevant updates here.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation."

At this point, it seems pretty clear this is not a priority for Spotify and the complaints of the users are being actively ignored. No matter how many internal people are "made aware" of the situation, no fix will be implemented. This is a highly documented bug with your software that makes it incredibly frustrating to use. We all know about it. It should be remedied immediately.

Plus it defeats the purpose of finding new music which I would imagine goes against what Spotify is all about. No? ๐Ÿ‘Ž ๐Ÿ˜œ๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿคฆ

I'm just here to also say please fix this. It literally keeps me from discovering new music unless I manually turn off repeat every day .

I'm amazed at how widespread this issue is and Spotify's seeming lack of care towards fixing it.

I will say that I have isolated the issue for my own personal experience and will share for anyone else who may have the same issue because, at least in my case, it may actually not be a Spotify issue, rather a Google issue.

The details:

Phone: Google Pixel 6 Pro

Android Version: 14

Default Assistant: Google Assistant (Not using Gemini)

Isolated bug(?) parameters:

I use the bedtime/wake up routine/alarm settings with the default clock app on my pixel. I have my main alarm for weekdays set to play my Spotify Metal Mix as the alarm sound (screenshot attached). This is (currently) the only time that Spotify will seemingly set itself to repeat (and shuffle fwiw). On the weekend, when I use the default alarm sound, everything is fine and it acts as it should. So my theory is that there is something on the Google side of things that is turning on shuffle and repeat before playing a song from the selected playlist. Not ideal, but I've at least found the issue. When I change the alarm sound back to a default sound, not Spotify, the issue goes away.

Conclusion : THIS time, I believe (for me anyway) the fault lies on Google, not Spotify.

happens in my car, on my computer, on my phone. its pervasive and consistent for YEARS over multiple devices, OS versions etc. This is here to stay! Love it or leave! (unfortunately)

That's a really odd workaround and reason for it happening but not saying
that is not the issue with your phone.

I have the same issue its funny that Spotify does not care, maybe we should switch to other platformsโ€ฆ

I am having the same issue, due to connecting to my carโ€™s Bluetooth. It has been years please fix it.

Android 14 Google Pixel 9 Pro XL

Spotify version 8.9.78.513

Ever since I changed my phone, everytime I connect Spotify to my car via Bluetooth (Ford SYNC) songs are BLOCKED on repeat. I mean that for me it is not possible to turn repeat off. If I click on the button on the bottom right to turn off repeat it gets switched back on AUTOMATICALLY.

"relevant team" is "investigating" plz hold.....

To follow up on my previous post, I noticed some interesting behavior recently. We had a rental car that had Android Auto / Apple Car Play, and this big of automatically enabling repeat was not present. Though I connected my phone to the carโ€™s Bluetooth many times and used the Spotify app to play music, repeat was never turned on in my Spotify app.

Yep Iโ€™ve been dealing with this for probably over a year now on two different iPhones and computer. Installed and reinstalled app. Super annoying!

**bleep**, just updated hoping it would finally fix it and as expected nope. Issues still there. Come on dude this is crazy spotify

My Spotify sets itself to repeat EVERY single time I use it on Android Auto with Ford SYNC.

It's not only annoying, time consuming and unacceptable that we are expected to just deal with this, but it's actively preventing me from discovering new music.

I'm ready for Spotify to die. We need a replacement, this company and the team managing it currently and failed their customers.

Us paying for this is the only reason their company exists. Good luck Spotify, you deserve all the hate you get from every side.

It's October, 2024 and this is still happening to me. It seems to happen more often when I am playing music via my Sonos system, but I tend to play music through Spotify, not the sonos app. It seems to happen most often when I start music from my phone (happens for Pixel 3a, Pixel 8a, My wife's Samsung phone, etc.) and then sign into the web app to stop the music when I am at my desk. I have not diescerned a real pattern, but it usually moves into "Repeat" mode (not "repeat 1" mode). Because the queue in Spotify is still kind of mysterious in its function (when you search and play something from the results, for example, the other results are sometimes added to the queue, just in case you wanted to hear the same track as it appeared on different compilations, different covers, different versions, and then songs with kind of a similar name).

Jumping in for the me too. Bums me out that I see this was reported a year ago and still there's no fix.

It wasn't always this way, so either it was broken on accident or changed on purpose. Since repeating tracks gets in the way of discovering new music I'd think Spotify would take it a little more seriously since it's kinda like the entire business model but what do I know

I do really enjoy having to turn off repeat over and over and over again every time I change albums, playlists, etc. I hope they never fix this!
