[Artist] Need help: my co-author **bleep** me over

[Artist] Need help: my co-author **bleep** me over

Hi everyone, I'm an artist who has just started releasing music so I'm not really sure how to deal with confusing situations, one of which has just happened

So recently my, whom I thought to be, friend has offered me to write something together, I agreed. He created some instrumentals and I've created the vocal part - music+lyrics, and we've recorded my voice. It turned out to become an EP with 5 songs in it. We've agreed to release this as co-authors so that the EP appears on both our Spotify profiles. He's also a videographer so we've filmed a lot of material for snippets with me as actress.

Few days before the album came out, we've had a conflict and he held a grudge on me. Just after that he has deleted some of the snippets with me from his Instagram and started filming and posting different people without even tagging me as the co-author. Well, it's his profile and he can post whatever he likes - I thought then and didn't take any actions.

But yesterday the album came out and, as you can see on the screenshots attached, I'm listed just as a featured artist, the EP itself has only one author, which is him (I'm rem, he's GREEMELL), - he told me he has listed me only as a lyrics writer. The EP's not even in my discography - as you can see, there's only my single there, and if a person hears this on Spotify, there's no way they could tap on my name and visit my profile, because the only way this EP has to do with my profile is this category "appears on" which you can find if you swipe all the way down. While the original agreement was very clear - to put this out as co-authors.

Please help me because this feels so off. All I want is just my name to be on my intellectual property, which is 50% of this creation. Is there a way to deal with this situation somehow?

Hey @sikkke,

Thanks for coming to the Community.

Spotify receives your music, album art, and track info via metadata delivered to them by the distributor/label. And Spotify is only able to display this content in the way it’s presented to them.

If you’ve seen or heard something on Spotify that you think might violate your intellectual property rights or be illegal, you can consider filling out the following form: https://support.spotify.com/report-content/.

Lastly, just a heads up—this info is meant to be helpful, but it’s not a substitute for legal advice. For advice that’s tailored to your situation, reaching out to a lawyer is your best bet! 🙂
