Of course it’s not resolved. I just stopped commenting in the forum because
I knew Spotify wasn’t going to actually try to fix it. I’ll be listening to
a song and as soon as I connect to my car, Spotify will start playing the
first song in my Liked Playlist from the same time position of the song I
was originally listening to.
I already know Spotify isn’t actually working on this or any of its other
major issues. They just put a Community rep in each forum so that we can
think our problem is being heard and so someone can be there to tell us
that Spotify has fixed it but if it’s still not working it must be a user
error. Spotify is trash.
This problem had been fixed for me for months but started happening again, once a week ago and then twice today. I had previously (couple months ago) logged out and into the app twice to force a sync. I am on Spotify version 8.9.34.567. On an iPhone 14 Pro Max, iOS 17.4.1. Today I was playing music on the phone and then when my phone connected to Car Thing it switched to a playlist I had been listening to yesterday. Later when I got in the car it did the same thing (wasn't actively using the app the second time).
Hi folks,
Thank you for reaching out to the Community. We appreciate your input!
@parksca5, I can assure you that we do pass on your guys' feedback and we do our best to help out. Sometimes however things do depend on the user's individual setup and we are not able to solve those from our end. That being said, we'd like to keep trying to help. Have you noticed any change in behavior when connecting to your car? For example if previously it started with the first song in your playlist and now doesn't, or it takes longer to start? The more we know, the better we can investigate.
@NotJohnBoy, You mentioned that this happens when connecting to Car Thing, does it only happen when connecting to it or does it happen when connecting to your car too?
We'll be on the lookout for your responses.
Cheers.
Thanks for confirming @NotJohnBoy. @parksca5, could you also share the exact version of Spotify you're currently running?
A short video / screen recording which captures this behavior in action would also be greatly appreciated. If you can't attach it here in your reply, you can instead upload it to YouTube as a private video or to a cloud service like Google Drive (just make sure the file is accessible by anyone with the link).
We'll be on the lookout for your replies.
As I mentioned I am on Spotify version 8.9.34.567. Capturing this on video would requiring me to screen capture every time I get in/out of my car which is a big ask and I don’t think I’ll be able to do that. I am happy to give more details and post if it happens again.
I understand @NotJohnBoy, thanks anyway!
When you connect to the car, is it always the Liked Songs playlist that starts playing? Or is it sometimes one of these:
Cheers 🤘
Here is a screen recording. This time instead of going straight to my liked playlist, it played one of my random recent playlists. Like I said, we’ve come full circle lol

@MartinT & @Yordan Here's a link to the previous thread that was incorrectly marked as fixed that will contain nearly 6 months of information on the issue, as well as other queue related issues.
Hey folks,
Thank you for your patience.
We received some new info from the relevant team, and this behavior should not be happening anymore in the newest version of the app. If you're still having this issue, we'd recommend updating your app to the latest version available, or performing a clean reinstall to make sure that there's no damaged cache affecting the proper behavior of the app.
If anything else comes up, don't hesitate to ask.
When I open Spotify on IOS it always plays something Iv recently listened too. It never did it before and if I was listening to something else and I close the app and open it back up it will automatically change it to the same song every time.
Still happening on latest update, uninstalled and reinstalled to see if that would work. Has been happening for a long time now.
iPhone 13 on iOS 17.5.1
My car has intermitted Bluetooth issues exacerbating this issue. What will happen is, the bluetooth to car connects initially and plays “random” playlist, always one in the 8 shown. I always switch this to DJX. Now i’m driving and Bluetooth disconnects, few seconds later it connects again and it’s playing a different playlist within the top 8 mentioned. I change back to DJX. It does it again then tries to go to that same playlist again. I change it back to DJX. Then sometimes it will go to a different playlist.
This also happens for my AirPods. When I enter the app the playlist it has selected is one Ive never selected. Again I ALWAYS use DJX. So I change it to to DJX. Now if I disconnect my airpods then reconnect it’s not saving where I left off on DJX.
If there are logs I can get to you to help I can readily reproduce the issue. Let me know what you need, I will check back at this thread periodically. I can provide screen capture of it happening.
Just an idea of what the logic may be here causing issues. The logic may wrongly be getting some sort of index for the playlist from the top 8 shown on the home screen. Those change frequently. When they reorder it plays that same index but it is the wrong playlist because the index has changed.
Hi @Nwodzisz,
Thank you for the detailed reply.
Does this also happen when playing a normal playlist and then stopping, or is it only when playing the DJ? Does the playback consistently break and switch regardless of what you're playing?
A screen recording will definitely be useful so make one when possible. If the files are too large to attach here in the Community, you can send them to us via Google Drive or as unlisted YouTube videos.
Let us know how it goes.
Whenever I get into my car and my iPhone has established a Bluetooth connection with the car radio, Spotify starts automatically. that's annoying. I do not want that. How do I deactivate this? My car radio doesn't have CarPlay.

Wow, so I was not even able to reply earlier. I got an error message as soon as I hit the reply button.
I agree completely. I've had this same issue for well over two years now. I used to think it was my really crappy decrepit phone, but then I got a newer more modern phone and continued to have this issue.
The only time I have respite from this is when my phone is completely offline, no data, no wifi and I'm listening to my downloads.
I’m having the same issue
Infuriating. This should be an easy fix. A toggle in Bluetooth settings: "Play on connect."
I think that this is intentional as it allows each start to count as a user engagement. That let's Spotify chargemore for advertising and it allows Spotify to report inflated engagement numbers when they report to shareholders each quarter.
If this is not intended behavior then Spotify should implement the fix above. If it is intended behavior, please admit to it so that I know to cancel my premium subscription.
Hey folks,
Apologies for the radio silence here.
We'd like to confirm that on certain devices it's expected for the app to start your last played song after connecting to Bluetooth and there's currently no way to disable this functionality.
If it does however play something else, please head over to this thread and share the info requested in the Top Answer comment so we can investigate this further.
Cheers,
