My Question or Issue
Since the 2021 Wrapped came out, I can't use the Premium commands on my Google Nest. It obviously thinks I have a Free account but I do pay and my subscription is up to date, last payment 28/11/21. What can I do about this please?
Hey @ChrisPampling,
Thanks for reaching out about this in the Community!
We'd recommend checking if the speaker has any pending firmware updates and let those run.
You can also unlink and re-link your spotify account.
Keep us posted on how you get on.
Hi Alex
I've checked and there are no firmware updates available. I've logged out of Spotify and in again on both my laptop and mobile phone. Still the same I'm afraid, still doesn't recognise the Premium commands. Thanks for trying for me.
Hi @ChrisPampling,
Fantastic news! Give us a shout if it starts misbehaving again; we're always here to help.
Have a great day 🙂
Hey @ChrisPampling,
Thanks for getting back to us and sorry for the confusion.
In this case, we'd recommend logging out and then logging back in two times in a row in your phone. It sounds a bit odd, but it forces a sync between the account and your device.
If this doesn't do the trick, would you mind trying again using a different internet connection to check if that makes the difference?
Keep us posted on how it goes.
Hey @ChrisPampling,
That's fantastic news!

Have a good one 🙂
I have the same problem. What did you do to solve it? I've tried everything.

Hey there @Kathym117,
Thanks for reaching out!
Could you try relinking your Spotify account in the Google Home app to see if it makes any difference? You can do so by following these steps:
1. Open the Google Home app.
2. Tap Account in the top-right.
3. Go to Settings.
4. Tap Music under services.
5. Click UNLINK.
Once it's done, relink your Spotify account again:
1. Press the + in the top-left.
2. Click Music and audio.
3. Select Spotify and tap Link Account, then Log in to Spotify.
Shouldn't that do the trick, could you let us know what troubleshooting you've tried so far? This will help us avoid repeating steps.
Let us know how it goes!
It won't let me unlink.
I've done all you suggested. Also unplugged everything and plugged it back in. Still doesn't recognise premium status.
Hey @Kathym117,
Thanks for the reply!
Just to check, are you seeing any specific error messages when you're trying to unlink the device? You can see the exact steps on how to unlink it on this page.
It's worth checking so that Spotify is set as the default player as well - these steps can also be found on the page linked above.
Keep us posted on how it goes.
The message "Cannot unlink your default music provider"
Also, it uses an old email of mine. When I try to add the current email it says "Can't send an invitation at the moment."
The google nest will play music sent from my phone. Not good enough.
Hi @Kathym117,
Thanks for your reply.
Try changing the default music provider on your Google Nest and then try to unlink the accounts again. You can find the steps to do it here. If that doesn't help, then try reinstalling the Google Home app and try again.
On another note, what service is the one with the old email? Google or Spotify? If it's Google, then it's best to contact them. If it's Spotify, you can update your email address from your Account Overview page with these steps.
Let us know how that goes.
