Question:

Is it possible to import an OPML file to Spotify? Google is shutting down it's podcast player and this is the only way you can export your podcasts, other than transferring them to YouTube music. I found a post from March 2021 indicating this idea had gotten enough votes and would be in the works (https://community.spotify.com/t5/Live-Ideas/Podcasts-Import-for-Podcasts-OPML/idi-p/4423445). Has there been any progress on this? If so, how do you do it? If not, is there another way to transfer my podcast subscriptions from Google Podcast player to Spotify?

Welcome to the Community!

At the moment, unfortunately there isn't an official way to transfer the files between the two apps and this idea hasn't been implemented yet. However, keep an eye out on this thread, in case any other users are able to provide a solution.

I can't believe this wouldn't be super high priority.  All the podcast player apps should be scrambling to pick up users like me who are forced to abandon google.  So I'm looking at castbox but it would have been nice ti just use the spotify I aleady pay for.

Agree the export for google app is now supported for US, I need to make the decision YT Music or Spotify - would be great to even have this choice?

I was already thinking about cancelling Spotify and moving to YT Music, but this just made the decision for me. Cheers!

I also have this issue and I'm very surprised that Spotify doesn't have a solution! Especially at $15 a month to subscribe! YouTube music suddenly got interesting.

You can go and import your opml file into Spotify that way.

Someone made a third party app for this. Not sure why we had to rely on "some guy" who doesn't work for Spotify to get this done, pretty ridiculous.

I can confirm that this worked and does not appear to be malware/phishing. It's great. 

I had used Stitcher and then Google Podcasts, but as both disappeared I needed a new option. YT Music (youtube) is absolute **bleep**, so I am hoping that podcasts on Spotify will be a better option.

Edit/update: If you have playlists in Google Podcasts, those don't appear to transfer. Only subscriptions. Still, it's better than manually updating. The jury is still out for me on using Spotify for podcasts... I'm not loving the interface so far.

Confirming that this works. It did get a few podcasts mixed up due to similar titles. Those were easy to rectify using the "Alternate Spotify Matches" button, which takes you to search results in Spotify, and you can choose the correct one to follow.

When Google shut down Google music and forced me to migrate to YouTube music I really disliked it, and began working on migrating to Spotify. But with no good tools to import playlists, lots of missing functionality, and a clunky UI, I've just never managed to make the move, and find myself just going back to YouTube music because, even though it has problems, there are a lot of features I like that aren't available in Spotify and that's where I have all my content organized how I like it. Now I'm facing the same dilemma with podcasts, and it's getting more tempting to completely abandon Spotify and go back to YouTube music. At least they have worked to improve YouTube music since they launched it. Spotify, on the other hand, will occasionally offer some fancy new feature while still lacking basic functions.
