Introducing a Private Listening Mode to Prevent Algorithmic Influence

Hello Spotify Team,

I would like to propose the introduction of a “Private Listening Mode” on Spotify. The main idea is to allow users to listen to music without it influencing the recommendations and algorithmic suggestions on their account.

Often, when I am driving with someone else and connect my phone to the car’s Bluetooth, we end up listening to music that differs significantly from my usual preferences. After a few sessions, Spotify starts suggesting this type of music on my home page, which doesn’t align with my personal taste.

To address this, I suggest creating a mode where users can activate private listening, ensuring that any music played during this time doesn’t impact their listening history or recommendations. This mode could be visually indicated by a change in the layout color or another easily noticeable indicator, making it clear when it’s active.

Thank you for considering this idea. I believe it would greatly enhance the user experience for many Spotify listeners.

Thanks for reaching out to the Community!

A similar feature already exists in the app: you can start a Private Session which pauses your Listening Activity so that it no longer shows what you're listening to and causes the content to not have an impact on the recommendations you get from Spotify.
