Linking Spotify and Google not working

Solved!

Linking Spotify and Google not working

When linking Google and Spotify, I follow the procedure as described on this page:

https://support.spotify.com/nl/article/spotify-on-google-devices/

I have to give Google permission to see playlists, among other things. I agree and then get the error message:

Something went wrong. Try again.

When I look at my account (more specifically on this page: https://www.spotify.com/nl/account/apps/) I see that Google products are allowed to connect. Despite the error message.

The Google Home app indicates that there is no link.

What am I doing wrong or do I need to do something different to connect?

The Google Nest and my iPhone are on the same WiFi network. The devices are next to each other. I have a Spotify Family account.

Hey @haasdijk,

Thanks for posting in the Community and welcome 🙂

For starters, we'd like you to check if perhaps you already linked a Spotify account to Google Assistant on your phone. To check this, you can follow these steps:

  1. On your Android phone, go to Assistant settings, or open the Google Assistant app and say "Assistant Settings".
  2. Scroll up and select Music.
  3. If you see Spotify there, unlinked.

Once you've done that, you can try following again the steps in this article.

If this doesn't do the trick, you can try by restarting both your devices, the Google Nest and your mobile phone. We recommend restarting your router to see if that makes any difference. Give it a try and let us know how it goes.

Hi, I am also having this issue with my Google Nest and my IPhone.
I have connected to Spotify previously and it worked, today it stopped working so I unlinked Spotify and tried to re-link it, and it didn’t work.
We definitely don’t have any Spotify accounts linked to the google nest. The wifi connection is fine, have tried multiple devices, have deleted and re installed both the google home and Spotify app, have tried multiple Spotify accounts, have factory reset the whole google nest. I am able to link video streaming services and other music services, so I think this must be a problem with Spotify, not google.

Hey @haasdijk and @Danika3,

Thanks for reaching out. We see you've already tried a lot of troubleshooting steps, kudos for that!

As a next step, can you please try removing Google from the apps on your Spotify account page? If that doesn't help, please ask a family member or a friend to try and connect their Spotify account and see if it's working as expected.

Let us know how it goes,

Cheers,
