Lyrics no longer sync on TV

I have 2 TCL Roku TVs. The lyrics are no longer in sync-the lyrics actually jump ahead so you cannot even see what is currently being sung.

Hey folks,

Thanks for your patience while our teams looked into this.

This should now be fixed. Make sure to update your app to the latest version available and let us know if it's working as it should.

We'll be on the lookout for your replies.

It’s not fixed. And I checked for updates. Do you guys actually test it before posting a reply that it’s fixed? Or that’s too hard?

It is better, but I wouldn't say it's as good as it was when it first rolled out.  I was going through my Spotify wrapped the other night and lyrics weren't literally 10s of seconds out of sync like they have been in the past.  There are still a fair number of instances where they scroll off the screen before they appear in the song, though.

I'll check for updates and take a second look, though.

I checked for updates on Roku and my Samsung S24+. I had all updates. I
tried 2 songs and still doesn't work. As someone else mentioned it might be
a little better and not jump as far ahead but within the 1st minute it is
not in-sync.

Have the problem like thread starter too.

The lyrics are not synced.

My device is an Roku Express 4K.

If you stop the music and move it a few seconds back or fwd the lyrics seems to be better synced.

Roku have the newest Firmware installed.

Hi Novy, in my case, like the others that commented, the issue is not fixed. The lyrics are still not synced more than a year after this was reported by the users. Of course, the app and Roku firmware are up to date.

This is my info:

Device: Roku Premiere

Country: Argentina

Spotify version: 2.11, compilation number 67

Thanks

I did a check for updates this morning and started listening to the album "Die Holle muss warten" by Eisbrecher.  The issue still persists, but like I said previously, it's not as bad as it used to be.  Very short lines in the lyrics exhibit the problem best when it's left to play continuously.  Longer lines tend to sync best.  I tried to reproduce the behavior when writing this note, but it seems that changing tracks to go to a specific song changes the behavior and the sync problem can become worse.

I did note that there's been a change in the app itself.  When a track ends, the next track's lyrics are shown on the screen before the last song has stopped playing.  This isn't how the app used to work and it may be related to the sync issue ( or at least it may explain why the behavior is different depending on whether we chose this specific track to play or if we let it run ).

In addition, I did note that in at least one song, Prototyp, there is a mixup in the order of the lyrics vs a section with no lyrics.  If you listen and watch the lyrics, right after the first chorus, that chorus ends on the line, "Mein Prototyp", but the lyrics show the next line as, "Funken spruhn, die Schweissnacht gluht" when there's clearly a bridge present to get to the next verse.  That bridge appears after that line.  This error wasn't present a year ago.

Since I'm doing bug reports this morning, I also noticed that when I tried to pause the song to write the last paragraph, the act of just pausing the song causes the shown lyrics to change by a fair bit.  I had to re-listen to the song and do a lot of pause, play for one second, pause, play for one second, pause, etc... to be able to see the problem and copy out the lyrics.  I'm not sure what fixes you've applied, but the overall behavior is inconsistent and frustrating.

ps - this was written over an RDP session and I'm unable to write special punctuation as well as the German Esset in this response.

Hey folks!

Could you take a look if the issue persists for you now?
In case it does, let us know what your device is, as well as its OS version and your Spotify app version.
We're monitoring this. Many thanks!

Hi Vasil!

The issue persists. This is the info:

Device: 3920X - Roku Premiere

OS version: 14.0.4 (version 12221)

Spotify version: 2.11 (compilation number 67)

By the way, it's been more than a year since this issue started, at least in my case.

Thanks for looking it up

It was fixed for me a few weeks ago, but starting from 2 days ago the 10s out of sync issue started again. Whenever I pause the progress bar, the timing returns to the correct value. If I start the music, the bar always jumps forwards by 10s. I'm using a Samsung TV with Tizen OS version 1641

The issue still persist for me.

TCL 55s535-CA Roku tv version 14.1

Spotify version : 2.11 compilation 67

I'm currently using Spotify on a Roku Premiere device. This issue is still not solved and lyrics remain unsynced. I already checked for app and OS updates, and tried reinstalling the Spotify channel, to no avail.

Hello,

the song lyrics on the Android TV keep skipping to random parts or even jumping to the end, while the music continues playing normally and correctly.

You can temporarily fix the bug by pressing pause and then play again, but this doesn’t last long.

Sometimes the issue is triggered by adjusting the volume, but other times it happens without doing anything at all.

Could you please fix this bug once and for all? 🥲

I’ve already cleared the cache and data on both my iPhone and Android TV, but unfortunately, it didn’t help.

Here is a recording

I have an interesting discovery that happened today completely by accident.  I was listening to Spotify on my Amazon Alexa device in the kitchen.  I frequently have a lot of trouble getting Alexa to understand me, especially when it comes to selecting music to play from Spotify.  I went into the living room and turned on the TV/Roku and went into the Spotify app to verify that Alexa did what I asked.

A bit later, I came back to the living room and I could still hear the music playing in the kitchen.  On a lark, I went to the currently playing track and tried to access the lyrics.  It took me a few tracks to realize it, but the lyrics on the TV were perfectly synced to the song playing in the kitchen.  I thought that was interesting, so after that album finished, I tried to get Alex to play Eisbrecher, but since she's not really multi-lingual, it's usually impossible to get what I want.

Fine.  I went to the TV and started the album Die Holle Muss Warten then paused playback.  Resumed playback in the kitchen, and the lyrics remained in sync song after song.

Ok.  I switched playback to the TV and the lyrics stayed in perfect sync until the end of the current track.  That's when things started to go haywire again.  This indicates the app can sync the lyrics, but something in the Roku technology stack is likely at fault for the failure.  Somehow the audio lags the lyrics most of the time.

I switched playback to the Kitchen again and it has since remained synced.  I do have an Amazon assistant in the entertainment center, but switching things around to display the Roku Spotify app while using the Alexa device for audio is a bit awkward.  20 years ago prior to HDMI, this wouldn't have been a problem.

It has never been in sync on our Samsung Frame. Text has always been 15 seconds or so ahead of the music.  I've tried reinstalling and everything.

Hi Dessi, I am on the new update with the new UI but the issue still exists for me. I'm on a Samsung Frame TV with Tizen OS version 1641. It would be greatly appreciated if you could help bring this insight I found out about regarding the progress bar issue to the development team. Basically, the default (Auto) time on the TV is sometimes wrong. If the default time is wrong, the progress bar lags by an equal amount of seconds. This wasn't an issue before because the progress bar used to start from 0:00 and would only jump if I change volume. If I pause and play, the bar would continue at the correct value. This started becoming an issue recently because for some reason, something changed with how the progress bars work, and changing volume doesn't make the bar jump but pausing and playing doesn't rectify the wrong time issue, pausing it would set it to the right time on the progress bar, resuming would make it jump again. Setting the TV time manually to the right time doesn't work for some reason, it is likely the Spotify App does not read the TV's manually set time but rather the Auto time. If the developers could change the way the progress bar works by not relying on the automatic time on the TV that would fix the issue. Apps like YouTube (which also have synced progress bars across devices when casting) aren't affected by this problem. Or at least row back the version so that pausing and playing the music again can correct the progress bar like before.

Same here on miTV 4s pro, but nothing can fix it even temporary and on everything I'd play. I just put it on dark mode and open the app on my phone, it's ridiculous. The app is not responsive at all it takes so many seconds to respond to even back from something, even play button takes a sec to act!

I have updated the app on my phone as well as my tv and the lyrics are still out of sync by 32 seconds. At the start of a song it even shows 0s for song start but lyrics will be at 32 seconds already.

Hey there folks,

Thanks for getting back to us!

Could you let us know which app version you're currently running? You can check this on the settings screen inside the TV app, under the profile picture. It should say 2025.01.27_4 or later.

If you have the latest version and you're still experiencing this, give us the exact date you're seeing in settings and we'll investigate further.

Cheers!
