Muffled/bad quality when listening on my MacBook and iPad, great on iPhone

Muffled/bad quality when listening on my MacBook and iPad, great on iPhone

When I listen to music on Spotify using my AirPods Pro on my MacBook Pro or iPad Pro, the sound sounds muffled, and is sounds worse than when I listen using my iPhone. The sound from my iPhone sounds great, but sucks on MBP and iPad Pro. I use the same AirPods on all devices.

I have set all devices to use the same setting.

Hey @zaaba022,

Thank you for reaching out to the Community and welcome.

These types of issues related to sound quality are commonly caused by damaged cache stored on your devices. First, we'd recommend performing a clean reinstall of the app by following the steps in this article. This is often an overlooked step, but it’s more thorough than a quick one and can be helpful in getting rid of any cache that might be causing trouble.

If the issue persists, would you mind trying with another pair of headphones (if possible) to see if the issue persists?

Lastly, it would be great if you could check if playing music offline makes any difference. This will give us a better look at the issue.

We'll be on the lookout.

I have the exact same issue, I have cleared all cache. Tried restarting the application but the issue is still there.

When I listen to the same song on my MacBook Pro the sound is really flat, the vocals sound like they're almost from underwater. When I switch up to my iPhone the quality drastically improves. The bass is way better, the vocals are way more clear.

Hey there @JakeImhoff,

Thanks for posting in the Community and welcome.

Just to clarify, have you tried reinstalling the app as @OscarDC mentioned above? If you haven't you can try it by following the steps in this article. By doing that, the app can be up-to-date, and you can make sure the cache is not leading to this issue.

On another note, we'd recommend you make sure the firmware of your AirPods is up-to-date. You can find out how to do it in this article.

If the above doesn't do the trick, we'd like to gather some additional info to better understand this behavior. Please send us:

  • The exact Spotify version you're running on the affected device.
  • Does this happen when listening to music on the web player?
  • Does this happen if you play content while your MacBook is connected to a different Bluetooth device?

Keep us in the loop!
