My Question or Issue

I've been having this problem for the last several episodes of this podcast (Tooth and Claw) and ONLY this podcast. Every other podcast, song, etc. works just fine. Tooth and Claw will play as if the episode is 1 second long, end, and then just go to another episode of another podcast and list the episode as finished listening. The only way I can get it to play is sending the link to someone in Discord and playing it from there, but I can't scrub through the episode to skip the beginning chatter because there's no timeline.

The issue persists with this podcast on other platforms (I've tried Apple Podcasts as well), on my desktop, phone, etc., so it's a problem with this specific podcast. I assumed it was a corrupted file because it's across platforms, but it seems other people can listen to the podcast just fine and haven't had an issue. It's also been for the last 10 or so episodes and I just haven't been able to listen. I've cleared the caches on both my phone and computer, logged in and out, and nothing has worked. I'm just stumped and bummed because this is my favorite podcast.

Hey @hiksti,

Thank you for reaching out to the Community and welcome.

We tried to replicate the issue you're describing from different devices using the link you provided and searching for it on the app as well, but it seems to be working properly using both methods. So to start investigating this behavior, would you mind checking if listening to the podcast in the Web Player has the same behavior?

Also, could you try using a different Wi-Fi network to see if it makes any difference? If you don't have another one, you can use a mobile data hotspot to test it.

Lastly, it would also be great if you could have someone log in with their account on your device - such as a friend or a family member, to see if the behavior persists. This will help us understand if it could be account-related or not.

We'll be on the lookout.

Hi,
I had the exact same problem with the podcast "History of everything". Happened with the browser instance of Spotify and the app on a laptop. I had to download the podcast episode for it to work. Also on the android phone app the episodes work fine.

Odd behavior indeed. Wifi is fine.

Browser in use - Chrome 128.0.6613.120, 64-bit

Laptop is running Windows 11 Enterprise, ver.23H2, build 22631.4037

Spotify version 1.2.31.1205.g4d59ad7c (and I do see a newer version is available)

Hey @quarterdot,

Could you try switching different Wi-fi network to see if the same issue would occur? You can create a mobile hotspot from your phone and connect your laptop to it. Also, make sure you're running the latest browser and driver updates.

Cheers 🤘

I'm having the same issues with Smosh Reads Reddit Stories | Podcast on Spotify

issue occurs while using the web player. It's working just fine on my S23 Android Mobile App

tried clearing cookies and cache too...

also, I've tried playing the Tooth & Claw: True Stories of Animal Attacks | Podcast on Spotify which the OP (original poster) @hiksti is having issues with and it just plays for 1 second before going to the next one as well!

edit: in my curiosity, I've tried playing History of Everything | Podcast on Spotify
which @quarterdot is having issues with as well and I can only play it for a second as well before it goes to the next podcast... very weird.

I've taken a video of it and upload it to YouTube. here is the link to see it https://youtu.be/qbLJtxYLsPM

Hey there @quarterdot,

Thanks for your reply here and for all the info you shared with us.

We couldn't replicate this behavior on the web player. In that sense, there are a couple of things you can try that we think can help with this issue:

  • Make sure the browser is up-to-date.
  • Clear host files. You can follow these steps to do it.

If the above doesn't do the trick, and since you mentioned this only happens when using the web player, then we'd like to gather some additional info. Please send us:

  • Do you use a VPN service? If yes, try switching it off or setting Spotify as an exception. Keep in mind Spotify doesn't officially support VPN. This means that issues with the app while using VPN are expected behavior.
  • Does this happen if you use a different browser?
  • Does this happen if you open the web player and your account on a different computer?
  • Does this happen over WiFi? Ethernet? Both? Do you notice any difference if you switch the internet connection you're using? You can create, if possible, a hotspot on your phone.

Keep us in the loop!

Hey there @Jumps004

Thanks for getting in touch about this.

Would you mind asking a friend or a relative to log in to their account on your PC and check if they're able to replicate this?

On another note, sending us a short screen recording of this behavior would come in handy. You can attach it to your next response by using the Insert Video option in the post editor. You can also upload it to Google Drive and share the link with us (make sure the video has the permissions for anyone to see it).

Also, could you send us the podcast's URI? Does this happen with a specific episode or with all of them?

We'll be on the lookout.
