Poor connection to server

Poor connection to server

Hi all,

I've experienced some issues with connection to the spotify server. After a lot of testing I've narrowed it down somewhat. I believe it may be at Spotify's end, or with my ISP.

Across a number of platforms on my home network I've noticed a poor connection which has become untenable. I initially thought it was an issue with my Sonos Play 5,but realised my PC using the desktop app (Windows 10) was also suffering from a drop in speed - songs would start buffering but get stuck after ~20secs play and eventually drop completely.

I get the same result using the spotify app on my iPhone when connected to the wireless network. When I discconnect and use mobile data it streams perfectly. For reference I'm running a Netgear Nighthawk as the Router which has been fully optimised. Further the Windows 10 PC is using a direct ethernet cable to connect to the same network so I don't believe it is a wireless issue.

There are no hardware firewalls being run on the router or otherwise that would get in the way.

The interesting part....

Using the same PC, if I use the browser based play back i.e. play.spotify.com (instead of the desktop app) IT WORKS PERFECTLY!

Hence I believe it is either an issue with the port that is being used to access the server, assuming the desktop app use 4070 and the web browser player use 80, or something to do with my ISP. If it is an issue with the ISP it's very specific to spotify as no other web services are having issues.
