My Question or Issue
Some podcasts (not all) won't play on the Spotify Web Player. When I try to press play, the play button will either look like it's buffering until I select something else or it'll skip around the show's episodes until it lands on a random one that I didn't select. There have been times where I've listened to an episode of a show in the past and when I go to play a new episode later on I'm unable to play it. I have no issues with playback when I use the Android app either.
Hey there @jerula,
Help’s here!
Make sure you try opening the web player in a private/incognito window. This step makes sure you avoid issues with your browser's cache. If that doesn't do the trick try again in a different kind of browser.
It's also a good idea to test if you observe the same under a different network. If it works with another connection, it's best to contact the service provider of the original network for more information.
Let us know how you get on! We'll be here in case you need any further help with this.
Hi @myahb298,
Welcome to the Community!
Could you confirm if it happens over both WiFi and 3/4G? We'd also like to know if this issue occurs across different devices or only on your PC.
Additionally, could you try logging in with a friend's account on the web player and see if the issue persists with the same podcast?
Cheers - We'll keep an eye out for your reply!
Has there ever been a resolution to this topic? I just came across this problem and none of the above fixes it for me. It only seems to be an issue with my hardwired desktop PC.
Hi there @5ublim3,
Thank you for your reply.
Can you provide us the URI of the podcast so that we can have a closer look directly from our end?
Also, can you clear your cache and cookies?
We'll keep an eye out for your reply.
Cheers!
https://open.spotify.com/show/1P5ywuAliiRdTKbZPTvf2p?si=XPJ-kN70Q9qBMs5Tnkrcow is one of the ones I cant listen to
https://open.spotify.com/show/4LtTQzFAVl9HP4Ru5L0Ffs?si=vLr9yO7eRDu5dv3gI4UzFQ is another
https://open.spotify.com/show/6Mk7Wk6cmrgXWnitO3NdYe?si=GmjQEjoMRRa1KXGHL-bbjA is one more
HOWEVER
https://open.spotify.com/show/71m5VZwQG7WFlMLT0ENItn?si=KhFUFFIuRAagDAXh4BU9dw is one I CAN listen to, as well as https://open.spotify.com/show/6GsF43OrzLJKCIMjzFVKym?si=JptZmujsSJGOtfT2VOHyVA and also can listen to https://open.spotify.com/show/4t4nuhMponRkNpX6xKFVNZ
I have tried clearing cache and cookies and also tried EDGE, Chrome and FIrefox. I have tried using the incognito/private mode on each also. I cannot figure out what is different that I can hear some and not some others. I am at work so cannot use the app, just the web app. Even being at work I can see how it might be a firewall thing but I still cannot figure out why some work and not others.
Hey @5ublim3,
Thanks for the reply and the info.
If your computer is using a company VPN, which would alter the location of your IP, some podcasts may not be available in the market your network is rooted to.
To test this, could you try creating a new free account and check if the same shows don't work on that account as well?
We'll be looking forward to your reply 🙂
Hi I'm having the same problem with my own podcast. I sent it out and I'm getting replies that it's not found which is happening. It's happened with others. The thumbnail shows up but it's not opening. It's an older episode. Please help.

Hey @gilmore7,
Thank you for reaching out to the Community and welcome.
To investigate your case further, we'll need some more info about it. Could you double-check if you can reproduce the episode on your end? Also, could you confirm with the other users if the issue happens in the Spotify app, or if it's just in the Web Player?
Lastly, would you mind checking if the issue is affecting just one episode or multiple episodes? This will give us a better look at it.
We'll be on the lookout.
Similar issue but i can play podcasts but not songs. It shows that the song is playing but i can't hear anything.
Hey @Ray2001,
Thanks for posting in the Community.
As a first step, can you please let us know the following:
Looking forward to your reply.
Issue still persisting on open web player - network engineer here - tried all above solutions on all updated software devices from multiple different browsers, devices, mediums. The web player will try to play the podcast off of the roku device and then switch to a podcast talking about hitler...when I was just listening to baby sleep time toddler music for my kids to sleep. What the actual heck is going on.
Thanks for getting in touch about this here in the Community.
Could you send us all the details @MihailY asked for previously?
Also, would you mind sending us a short screen recording of the issue happening so we can take a closer look? You can attach it to your next response by using the Insert Video option in the post editor. You can also upload it to Google Drive and share the link with us (make sure the video has the permissions for anyone to see it).
We'll be on the lookout.
Hello Eni!
Can you provide a video of it working as intended as well? I feel that the proof of burden shouldn't be on the person stating that they have tried the above steps.
Please go to a roku device; post the software update of the roku device; go to a browser; post the software update of the browser then please capture a short video of you trying to select play on a different medium and then switch it from roku to phone device. Please show the make and model of the phone/software update/OS (Better yet, why not reinstall a whole new clean version of windows as well (Just to be safe right? Otherwise that could be the problem) and the latest security version of software - whether the cookies and cache were cleared; BTW please show the version of widevine on chrome to play DRM content, then select baby sleep music podcast on your roku device (Why don't you factory reset your roku device clearing the device as well to be sure (I'm sure that would be one of the steps I would be asked to try); then switch over to play on open browser on phone or open web player. Do you see how this can just continue ad infinity? You could ask me to install linux and try to replicate the problem there.

Clicking play on the above link results below in a screenshot - where it opens up a random podcast that isnt selected nor searched for - and that's just in the open spotify web browser with chrome . Not doing anything fancy to swap between devices to limit the amount of actual work involved. The open webplayer literally said Spotify cannot play this podcast.
Chrome -
Version 126.0.6478.127 (Official Build) (64-bit)
Windows 10 PRO OS
Google Widevine Windows CDM - Version: 1.0.2738.0
Widevine Content Decryption Module - Version: 4.10.2710.0
I do not have time to waste on simple troubleshooting steps to verify your portion of whether the device is working or not. Please assume that ALL of the steps that NORMAL people do not do have been done/tried/troubleshooted and researched extensively. IF there was a place to GET a trouble ticket with the network team or app team I would be there instead of here however outsourcing simple help desk solutions saves money for the company, I do hope you're getting paid for this.
A screen shot will suffice to limit the amount of steps/points of failures and no I will not be installing random software from user suggestions.
Clicking play on the link above doesn't play the video. Please verify if it works on your device when clicking play. It does not work on my device, however the previous posts videos do, therefore it SHOULD work like the others but it DOESNT.
Welp, no reply.
Thanks for everything.
