Switched Premium to Basic and no longer syncing with Alexa device

Switched Premium to Basic and no longer syncing with Alexa device

I had a Premium Duo account and was able to play my music through one Amazon echo dot, and my wife on her account could play simultaneously via another (via Amazon household - UK based). 

We switched to Basic Duo membership today since we do not listen to audiobooks. However our devices can no longer play from our Spotify accounts - Alexa just saying it cannot connect. We can still play Spotify on our phones and can still ‘cast’ music to our respective echos by the Spotify app.

 

We have tried turning the echos off and on again. We have tried reinstalling the Alexa and Spotify apps. We have tried unlinking and relinking them. We have confirmed they are linked and the Alexa app authorised in our Spotify app.

 

Any advice appreciated -  is something wrong or does a Basic account just not allow this so we have to upgrade?

Just to add - Alexa says ‘I’m having trouble playing from Spotify’ when we try and get it to play using voice commands rather than pushing it from our phones or the Alexa app.

Thanks for getting in touch about this and welcome to the Community. 

 

You should be able to use your Alexa devices with the basic plan without issues. That being said, would you mind checking if the firmware of your Alexa devices is up to date? Also, you mentioned that you've already reinstalled the app, but would you mind going through the steps of a clean reinstall, as it's more thorough than a normal one?


If the issue persists, could you give another internet connection a go to see if the same happens?

Thanks - I managed to get through to Spotify on the help chat and they
confirmed that the Basic plan deliberately limits how you can interact with
it to distinguish it from Premium. I have upgraded back to Premium and it
is working again.
