Video podcasts not working

Video podcasts not working

I have the premium Spotify plan and for some reason video podcasts have been playing black. There is not audio or video and it has been going on for quite some time. I have a Galaxy S10 but the same also happened on my old phone, a Motorola moto z4.

I have found out that force stopping the app will enable the episode to play correctly, but I have to force stop it every time. I was just wondering if there is a more efficient way of fixing the problem.

Hi there @Roo04,

Thanks for posting this thread!

So we can investigate the matter further, we'd like to start with a few questions:

  • Does the same thing happen if you connect your phone to a different device (such as a speaker for example) and play from it?
  • Have you tried with another Spotify account (a relative's or a friend's) and does the issue persist?
  • When did you first notice this? Was it after an update of the app?
  • Does it happen with all podcasts or specific ones?
  • Apart from a force stop of the app, have you tried any other troubleshooting steps and was there any change?

We'll be on the lookout for your response 🙂

Works on my iPad and Windows PC. But not on my Samsung S20

Hi, thanks for responding.  The issue is still present when I connect my phone to a speaker, and it happens with all video podcasts (not regular podcasts). I have tried restarting my phone but it does not fix the problem. I don't recall updating the app before the problem first arose.

Thanks for the details, @Roo04!

As a clean reinstall can often help resolve different issues with Spotify's performance, we recommend doing one with following the steps in this article. By doing this, you'll also get rid of any corrupted cache on the device.

Should the issue persist, it'd be very helpful if you could log into a relative's or a friend's account on your device to see if it's a device- or account-related issue.

Additionally, are you using an SD-card? If that's the case, it's even worth removing it and using Spotify without it to see if that'll change the behavior.

Welcome to the thread, @LegoLa. Could you also try these steps and let us know if something worked for you on the Samsung?

Keep us posted 🙂
