Family members can’t join Family plan

My Question or Issue

My Family can’t join my Premium Family Plan because it says “ You can’t join this plan. You can join someone else’s Premium plan only once every 12 months”, even though its the same Premium Family account holder. The Premium Family Plan with me(Premium account holder) and my family recently expired. I renewed it and had to invite my family again but they weren’t allowed to join and got the message “ You can’t join this plan. You can join someone else’s Premium plan only once every 12 months”. The reason the premium account expired was because the credit card used for the payment expired.

Hey @Ag2143,

Thanks for reaching out.

All Spotify users can only switch Premium Duo/Family plans once every 12 months (as a member). After they've switched plans and then left it or got removed from one, they can always re-join the plan they were last in (a different plan will work too, as long as the account used to create the plan is the same).

This means that your family members were already part of at least two plans which were created by different Spotify accounts. Otherwise, they shouldn't be getting the error message you've shared.

You can check your order history here to find out if the account you've used to start the new subscription is the same as before.

Lastly, keep in mind that, when a subscription ends, the account itself doesn't disappear. It'll continue to exist just like before, but without any of the Premium-only features, but you could always re-subscribe through it.

I hope this helps 🙂
