My Question or Issue
The Family premium plan is available in South Africa. However, we now want to activate Spotify for one of our kids using the Spotify Kids app (to allow us to control content), but get the error that this is not available in South Africa? How do we go about getting this set up? Why is the family plan available when the kids app isn't (and it thus isn't a family plan)? Please assist.
Hi there @JKZA,
Thanks for reaching out about this in the Community!
The Spotify Kids app is currently not available in South Africa. As much as we'd want to make all subscription plans available in every country and region, it's not always possible due to local laws and regulations.
We don't have official info on when or if the Spotify Kids app will be made available in SA.
Under the Premium Family plan you can still have up to 6 accounts for people living under the same roof. Note that the minimum legal age to create a Spotify account in SA is 13 years of age, in compliance with Spotify T&Cs.
Hope this info clears things up.
Thanks very much. As this solution isn't available, we had to unfortunately make the decision to terminate our Spotify subscription and go with Youtube Music, as they have a kids account available. Thanks very much for looking into this for us and for the detailed response. Sad to leave Spotify
I have exactly the same issue with the Spotify kids app not being available in South Africa. Could this matter please be escalated to the relevant teams so that they are able to make the changes needed.
Damn what a disappointing answer I'll also cancel my subscription and migrate to YouTube music
Please look into this urgently - it is no use having a premium family plan if we can't use it for our child as well. Do you have any timelines for when this will be available in South Africa?
Yup, it's incredibly poor by Spotify, just no response and no regard for South Africa's children. Youtube music does a much better job at the family aspect, so even though Spotify is probably the better music app, if you want it for your kids, it's a must to look elsewhere.
My daughter has been using Spotify for a while now, specifically to listen to stories. I am concerned that she may stumble in inappropriate content.
I was really glad when I saw Spotify does have Spotify Kids and immediately upgraded my plan to Premium Family so that I can start protecting my child. Only to then learn that for some unknown reason the service is only available in the US, even though it was rolled out in 2019?
Now I'm going to break my daughter's heart because now she will not be able to use Spotify anymore.
Looks like I'm cancelling my Spotify subscription to switch to Youtube music. I personally would like to rather use Spotify, since I've been using it for a very long time, and I prefer it to Youtube music, but to protect my child, I'll switch wihouth thinking twice.
Hey there you, Yeah, you! 😁 Welcome - we're glad you joined the Spotify Community! While you here, let's have a fun game and get…
