My audiobook locked after listening to half of it

My audiobook locked after listening to half of it

I’ve approx 17 hours into a 28 hour audiobook. I used my allotted 15 hours per month and purchased a top up. However, my monthly hours were supposed to reset yesterday and today I found the audiobook locked. Spotify is asking that I buy the books ($30) to continue listening. It was free before and I’ve already spent $12 on a top up. It seems unreasonable to spend an additional $30 on half of a book. Why am I suddenly being charged to access the book? For reference I am using a student premium account.

Thanks for reaching out 🙂

Premium Student accounts do not have access to the Premium Audiobook catalogue - for reference check out this page.
Looking at the situation, it seems to me that you've recently switched from a different plan to Premium Student. If this is the case, Audiobooks will now only be available for purchase for you and you will not have any Audiobook listening hours included.

I pay for individual Spotify Premium. I just paid to top up my listening hours for a specific book, but it is still locked and now telling me I need to pay $21.90 to listen to it. Why can't I use the time I just bought? If this book is for some reason different than all the others I have listened to, then why isn't that clearly communicated somewhere? If I can't listen to the book I thought I was buying, I want a refund so I can just go back to Audible. I have no patience for a bait and switch.

Is it only one specific book that you can't play or are none of them working? If it's only a specific one, let us know which one it is and send us some screenshots of the behaviour so we can double check this on our end.
