Ignore Songs/Playlists/Artists

Ignore Songs/Playlists/Artists

We really need the ability to hide / ignore certain artists and playlists.

What happens is that Google Home sometimes plays random stuff which now shows up in my start screen and it keeps playing the same playlists when I simply tell it to play music.

I don't want these Artists / Songs / Playlists to appear anywhere and I also don't want them to end up in my "Repeat" playlist or affect any other algorithm. The only place where they should up is when searching for them. Maybe show a label that it's ignored.

Hey there @moritzroessler

Thanks for reaching out about this here in the Community. We moved your post from the Ideas board to the relevant Help board, where it fits better.

If you have specific playlists you don't want to be included in your recommendations, you can exclude them permanently. To do so, you just need to open the playlist you want, tap the 3-dot menu and select the option "Exclude from your taste profile". This option will prevent those songs from affecting your suggestions.

What you can also do is activate Private session before you listen to on your Google Home which has basically the same effect as the aforementioned feature.

Lastly, you can block any artists on the mobile app. You just need to head to the Artist profile > click the 3 dot menu > Don't play this. This option will block all content from that artist across all devices. Note that if the artist is featured in a song/ album from another artist it might still be playable.

Hope this helps. If you need a hand with anything else, the Community is here for you.

Spotify says that using this option will result in these songs having “less influence” on our taste profile. You say this option will prevent these songs from affecting our suggestions. Does it fully prevent these songs from influencing recommendations, or only somewhat prevent these songs from influencing our recommendations?

What would be useful is the ability to exclude a song, not the artist altogether. I have one song that keeps popping up that I actually hate the sound of, but there are things from the artist that I like so I don't want to remove the artist altogether.

What would be useful is the ability to exclude a song. Plenty of artists have that one song we hate and we don't want to get in our recommendations but we like other things from the artist so excluding the band altogether doesn't help.
