Search History Missing

Search History Missing

My Question or Issue

When searching song/artist, search history is gone. Seems like the search history gets automatically cleared or deletes itself after a few days, there does not appear to be an option to turn this off. It has happened twice now.

Hi there @Jktphr,

Thank you for taking the time to post in the Community.

To start with, can you check if you have any strict rules for clearing cache or saving space on your phone?

We'll keep an eye out for your reply.

Take care!

No, I have more than enough space not to warrant any need to clear caches.

Hi again @Jktphr,

Thank you for your reply and for checking this. Let's continue to investigate this.

Can you perform a clean reinstall of the app? This will make sure there's no old cache files causing this.

If that doesn't do the trick, can you let us know if you get the same behavior on a different device?

Keep us posted 🙂

Cheers!

same issue on both PC and Phone for quite a while (months)

Hey @DaHenk,

Thank you for your reply in this thread.

Could you please let us know if the app behaves the same way after trying the steps that @Jeremy suggested earlier in this thread?

On another note, have you tried recreating this issue with a different account? If a friend or a family member has a Spotify account, it could be great if you can ask them to log in onto your device to test if they'll experience the same.

Let us know how it goes.

This happened to me again today. Which makes it two times now. First time was right after new year, so I assumed it was a bug connected to that. It sucked to lose everything but I just let it be.

This has only happened on my phone. Android, OnePlus 6.

Hey @Frag,

Sorry to see you've been affected by this as well.

Have you tried any of the abovementioned troubleshooting steps to see if they make a difference?
If not - please do and let us know how it went 🙂
The more information we have about this - the better.

Thanks & cheers!

This is a ridiculous issue by Spotify. They act like it is not an issue. As if they were ignorant to the fact that we cannot find our search history on the PC app and keep giving us ridiculous solutions like restart your computer. Spotify is making this issue on purpose! To force us to browse artists we do not want to listen to instead of listening to our history!

Bruh it just happened to ME TWICE. I dont think some people know how annoying this is,  it happened a couple weeks ago and I built it up again for it to happen AGAIN just now.

I did  a clean reinstall. I removed every single trace of a Spotify file and installed the version from the Windows store. And I kind of got the search history working again. If I search for a song and I choose the song from the 'Top Result' section (red square) and not the 'Songs' section to the right, then the song does get saved to the search history when I go to the search bar. But sometimes I search for an artist and want to choose a song from the list of songs (right section) and would like that song to be saved in the search history, and it does not do that. It's not the best solution but it works somewhat well.

I have had the same problem on Windows 10, ongoing for several months. I get a music mag and search all new releases when it arrives, checking each week from my Spotify search list if the album has been released.  For over two months the search wont save any artists I search for.  Is there a solution to this as it was working perfectly earlier in the year.  I have no updates to do and even reinstalled from Windows Store.

Hey everyone,

Thanks for reaching out about this in the Community.

In order to look into this further with the relevant team, and in case you haven't sent it yet; let us know the following info:

- Troubleshooting tried so far

- OS version of your device

- Exact Spotify version

Also, and if possible; could any of you record a short video where we can take a better look? You can attach it to your next response by using the Insert Video option in the post editor. You can also upload it to Google Drive and share the link with us (make sure the video has the permissions for anyone to see it).

We'll be on the lookout.
