My Question or Issue

Sorry about the cropped image. For this list, the top track and the second-to-last—both at the edge of the screenshot—are the issue. The songs are greyed out on my PC or my phone. If I fix the problem on one platform, it will pop up on the other and vice versa. But Spotify should be able to read both files simultaneously on Android and Windows!

The screenshot shows you the list on my PC. On my phone, the list is complete and in working order now. But as soon as I change it to benefit my PC, it will grey the tracks out on my phone. Again.

This is frustrating as **bleep**! I have already resorted to un- and re-installing Spotify. Does anyone have alternative suggestions?

Okay, so it happens in other playlists as well. I thought I had solved a problem, but Windows and Android are just reading these files differently, I guess. Again, fixing the issue on Android creates the same problem in Windows, as well as the other way around. How can I fix this?!

Hey @Señorflip,

Thank you for reaching out to the Community.

The tracks you may see grayed-out are commonly related to some market restrictions when the album is available on our platform, but it can be related to other factors if it's a local file. We understand you’ve already tried some troubleshooting steps including reinstalling, but to be sure that we're on the same page - did you use the steps for a clean reinstall mentioned in this article?

If so and the issue persists, we'll need more details about the issue to continue investigating it. So taking this into account, include the following info in your next response:

  • Are the affected tracks local files downloaded from a licensed source?
  • Have you tried to remove them and add them again to see if it makes any difference?
  • Is the issue happening if you play them directly from the local files folder? Or does it happen when you add them to a playlist?
  • Have you tried to re-download those files from a different legal source?

Also, since you mentioned you "fix the problem on one platform, and it will pop up on the other" would you mind mentioning how you're fixing it?

Lastly, include in your next response as well the exact OS version of your mobile device, along with the Spotify version you're currently running to continue investigating the case.

We'll be on the lookout.

Hi Oscar, thanks for tuning in!

Yes, I did the clean reinstall for Android several times.

  1. Yes, overall, the files come from licensed sources.
  2. Removing the files and adding them back to the folder doesn't help.
  3. The tracks are greyed out when they're in a playlist.
  4. That should be possible, in some cases, without having to buy them again.

To fix the issue, I delete the greyed-out tracks from a list, then add them again via the Local Files folder on Spotify, and then the list is complete again on the one platform. But the issue will re-emerge on the other.

The Spotify version on my phone is 8.9.42.575. The phone is on Android 11. Android security update July 1st 2022 and Gooogle Play System update on May 1st 2024.

If you need any more info, I'm more than happy to provide it.

Hey there @Señorflip

Thanks for getting back to us.

Could you let us know if this has always happened with your locales files or if it started happening recently?

On another note, we suggest that you try turning Show audio files from this device off in the app settings > restarting your device > turning Show audio files from this device on again.

We'll be waiting for your reply.

My Question or Issue

So I have spotify on my iphone and mac, logged in to the same account. For the Beyonce album 'Cowboy Carter', the song Levii's Jeans is greyed out on my mac, as well as the song Fortnight by Taylor Swift. As I'm typing this I realize that Post Malone is featured on both of these songs lol. Is this a regional thing or is he no longer on Spotify? I'm so confused.
