How can I remove the “playing recommended songs for you” feature

How can I remove the “playing recommended songs for you” feature

I don’t want to listen to music that’s not in my playlist

Mine continues to recommend songs even with the smart shuffle off. It’s infuriating. I make a playlist to put my baby to sleep and I put those songs on it because they don’t have loud drum crashes, then the next thing I know I’ve got Billy Joel shouting UPTOWN GIRL in one ear and my baby crying in the other!

i've tried to help but i give up. sorry and good luck .

This is infuriating! We spend a lot of time and effort to search, sort, and find specific tracks to curate a playlist, then set it to REPEAT, and Spotify decides to hijack the playlist at the end and insert absolute garbage into it!
HEY SPOTIFY - YOU CAN "DO" AND "BE" BETTER!!

There is really a very simple answer to this, which is for Spotify to make their “recommendations an opt-in rather than a default. I assume this would mean that if Spotify’s recommendation algorithm continues to be terrible, users would know that they opted in and that there would be a simple box to uncheck to remove this “feature” for them. The suggestions given on this string gave me a way to stop the recommendations, for which I am grateful. However, not everyone is comfortable or confident in getting into the many layers of settings, across platforms. Put most simply, surprising users with a terrible algorithm creating content for them is a very bad way to do business. Make it voluntary, not default.

better yet, spotify needs to send someone from the staff to everyone with the problem so they could fix it for them.

Marked as solution

I finally solved this problem. It was incredibly irritating and I read all the You tube posts etc which didn't apply to me. I figured it out yesterday. Relief!!!!!

Your random play icon that looks like two curved arrows that cross actually has 3 functions, not 2. When turned off, it will play your playlist in order. When turned ON, there are actually 2 ONS. One is to randomize your playlist and one is to randomize your playlist AS WELL AS adds recommendations. The two functions look almost exactly alike (they light up green when on) but one has a little dash on top of it and when you click on this option it actually does read that it will add recommendation.

good luck all. I was so relieved to figure this out and enjoy my own playlist again!

Thank you!

I think I see it now. It's way too subtle of a change to notice.

this is awesome

It worked! Thank you. Until I read the linked article I didn't know about shuffle vs. smart shuffle.

Yes, the problem is how annoying it is to actually just select shuffle instead of smart shuffle. A lot of the UI is not great IMO, but then I liked Spotify's UI in 2013 better than I do now so I might be a luddite at this point.

Thanks! I almost cancel my 4 years old subscription for this. It was driving me crazy and disrupts the whole point of having a playlist

Bruh, it's still a problem to me. I'm on free version, it's on the latest version and I have a playlist with over 300+ songs, but I'm still getting recommendations. They play over 3 songs and then they play a recommended song, which is not on my playlist. I've tried turning Autoplay off, but it still plays recommendations. I can't change the shuffle mode, because they will force me to buy Spotify Premium, and I don't want to.

If anyone could help, that would be great.

Nevermind, I've fixed it myself, lol. Basically, I uninstalled Spotify on my phone, then went to the desktop site, which gave me the ability to turn off shuffle mode in my playlist without upgrading to Premium and that's what I did. And then I reinstalled Spotify on my phone, logged back in and went to check my playlist, and honestly, the shuffle mode was turned off and now I could choose any song to play from the playlist. I don't know if I accidentally got the Spotify Premium trial, but now I know it worked for me so. (Oh wait, it was connected to the desktop site. Ignore what I said, that doesn't work when I switch to my phone on the app.)

It’s surprising easy. Touch the green intertwined arrows next to the green and black play button. Keep touching it until it reads recommendations removed. Done.

My Question or Issue

When ever I play my playlists Spotify keeps playing suggestions or recommendations in the middle of them.

I have premium subscription and auto play is switched off.

Is there any way of stopping this??

I learned today, in order to remove the "recommended songs" that literally no one asked for ---- you have to make sure you uncheck the option in TWO DIFFERENT PLACES. if you only uncheck it at the bottom of your window in the main spotify player, and the option is still ON in the playlist you're playing -- spotify will continue to pollute that playlist.
You would think unchecking recommended songs would uncheck globally, but here we are. Meanwhile spotify increasing prices. Nice.

My Question or Issue

I have 460 songs in my Liked Songs playlist. But whenever I play it I get a "recommended song", not belonging to the playlist, after almost any playlist song. This is very annoying, as I have to alt everything I'm doing and remove the nuisance. How can I block recommendations from playing uninvited?

You are my hero!!!!!!  Thank you so much.  It's so damn irritating when they slide in a song that doesn't you didn't pick yourself.  Thank you. Thank you.

So simple solution... You are our hero.

Both of mine are off, and Im still getting songs, Exited out of all apps, logged out of all devices, and its still happening.....fix your stuff
