My Question or Issue

Today when I opened the app, I got a notification.  It read, Need a binge-worthy series or new show recommendation?  Turn on push and email notifications to get podcast recommendations.

I do not want to get spammed with recommendations from some algorithm.  I turned off push notifications because I didn't want to see them, and I do not appreciate in-app notifications whining about it.  I pay for premium, and my understanding is that Premium is not meant to have ads in it, and yet now Spotify is interrupting the experience with ads to convince me to let in more ads.  About an hour later, I got another one, a full-screen ad, asking me to please listen to some audiobooks.  I have just checked my notification settings; half of them are fully off, and the other half are email-only.

I do not want popups on my phone, ever.  The only notifications that appear on it should be from people I know, not from my music player demanding I spend more time with it.

I do understand your frustration.

But this is really a great tool both for you as a listener to discover new music in your preferred genre/style and for the creators to promote their music directly to you as a listener (Marquee).

So far I don't think there is a way to turn those notifications off, as it isn't a push-notification. But a popup inside the app.

/D

If the tool is as good as you say, people will hear about it and choose to enable it themselves.  I have never, not once in my life, heard a human being express satisfaction or joy over a push-notification containing promoted content.  I am satisfied with my current methods of music-discovery.

This is my phone, my account.  Why should anyone else get a say in its settings?

I don't say everyone love it. I just say it's a great way to discover new music and podcasts.

As I can see the campaigns we have been running on our artists (+40%) either saved or put the track on their own playlist/liked songs. Therefore I believe it's a great tool for both the creator and listener.

Lets see if anyone else have a solution for you to turn marquee notifications off - wish you a great day 🙂

Hey folks,

Thanks for posting in the Community and welcome.

In this case, we'd like to add some insights. @_fj1-gf6lbp3h, we understand what you're mentioning and we really appreciate the time you took to write to us about this. These pop-up notifications aren't ads, but recommendations or suggestions about new or existing Spotify services or campaigns that might be of your interest based on your listening habits. They don't interrupt your listening experience as they appear only once when you open the app. Currently, this can't be deactivated on the app.

We value every piece of feedback you let us know. We'd like you to know another user had a similar idea, so they posted on our Idea boards about it here. Even though the status is set as Closed - Not Enough Votes, it doesn't mean the idea has been rejected. We’d suggest adding your vote in the thumbs up icon and subscribing to it to get notified as soon as we have any updates to share.

Hope this clears things up. If you have any questions or need anything else, the Community is here for you.
