Spotify App causing lot of mobile traffic

Spotify App causing lot of mobile traffic

Hi,

I reset the mobile data statistic of my iphone on 2015-07-25.

The next time I used Spotify on my iphone was on 2015-07-28.

I was going for a run and was listening to a downloaded playlist during that time.

Next day I received a SMS from my carrier that I was charged an other 10 Euros because I have exeeded my mobile traffic for this month.

So I was looking my iphone statistics and I was suprised because Spotify App used 237MB of my data????

The sync over mobile option is and was disabled.

Spotify support please explain me what happened here???

Thank you

Michael

Hi Michael,

sorry to hear about your issue. Unfortunately, based off what you told me, Spotify doesnt seem to be the cause of you exceeding your monthly mobile traffic. Phone service providers charge you by the gigabyte. 1 gigabyte is 1024 megabites or mb. 237mb wouldnt even be a half a gig used. It seems there may be another app on your device using your data. Facebook is the most common one to eat data. It loads all videos on your timeline at once and continues to play them until you view them. There is an ioption in your facebook settings that can be changed to prevent this. Hope this helps!

Hi,

I know how much 1 gb is.
I forgot to mention that I reset the mobile data statistics because I got a message from my provider that I already have used 80% of my mobile data volume until end of July.
So I reset statistics to know when I have to turn of mobile services to avoid the extra package.

So but this has nothing to do with the issue that spotify was using 236mb of my mobile data package. I was only listening to a downloaded playlist. So this should never happen. That's why I download playlists, to prevent mobile data access.

And even streaming in normal quality for 35 minutes should never cause 237mb.
A compressed song with 4 minutes should have around 5 mb. So 40 minutes would be 50mb and not 237mb.

I was using spotify only once out of my home or work (wireless lan access) after I reset the statistics. So don't tell me that it must have been something else.

No answer from Spotify?????

I have the same problem.

Same problem here, but on the Android app.

I do not download any music using mobile data but still Spotify uses about 20 MB per day. Now I don't have any high speed internet anymore for this month because of this problem.

I'm using premium and have some offline playlists/albums which I only sync at home with Wifi. I did not download any music using mobile data this month but still Spotify needed about 400 MB traffic. This is really annoying.
