Spotify Connect disables/silences notifications during playback on external speakers

Spotify Connect disables/silences notifications during playback on external speakers

Hi folks,

I have an interesting issue on on my iOS devices. Whenever I play music via Spotify Connect on my SONOS System or via generic bluetooth, Spotify seems to silence my notification sounds. This leads to missing every notification while listening to music on external devices.

This effect does *not* appear, when using Airplay to connect to SONOS from within the Spotify app.

I checked on two different iPhones (SE2020 and 12) both using the most current iOS (14.2.x) and the effect is the same on both devices. It does also not appear when using the SONOS app to play Spotify songs. So it seams as if this is an issue within the Spotify app itself. Can anyone confirm this?

Additional info: when I swich from connect to Airplay, the notifications work during playback.

I also found, that connect seems to active silent mode (similar to what the side switch does).

Hi,

I have the same problem with my iPhone 12 Pro and my iPhone 11.

It seems that when I use spotify connect whith my Samsung Sound Bar or my LG TV's, the notifications are distribute in silence like the "do not disturb mode"

Thomas

hello same here …2021 Samsung series 7 (latest) and latest iOS at date. iPhone get silenced when playing on tv via Spotify connect

Hey folks,

Thanks for posting - we’re here to help!

Could you confirm if this persists after a clean reinstall of the Spotify app? Make sure you try this step on all affected devices to remove corrupted data that could be causing the issue.

If you see no change after a clean reinstall, make sure no battery optimization settings or data cleaning apps run active on your mobile device. Such features can often prevent the app from operating at full capacity. We also suggest accessing the app settings and making sure all Permissions are enabled for Spotify.

Hope this helps. Keep us in the loop here.

Hi,

The bug persist after un clean reinstall and after a phone reset.

Regards,

Thomas

Hey @moi78690,

Thanks for your reply.

Can you let us know if this happens when you use Connect to play on any other device, or only happens on your TV?

Additionally, is the phone actually set as Do Not Disturb?

Keep us posted.

Hi @CarlosE,

Thanks for your reply.

I just do the test with 2 Amazon Alexa. The result is the same. Notifications are in silent, or with reduced sound.

I have the impression that Spotify changes the system volume when using Spotify Connect. Or iOS is based on multimedia volume for notifications.

My phone is not in do not disturb mode, and the switch is in ring mode.

Thanks a lot,

Regards

Thomas

Hi there @moi78690,

Thank you for your reply in this thread.

Just to confirm, do you mean that the notifications on the phones are being muted, or that they aren't played over the connected device?

We'll keep an eye out for your reply.

Take care!

Live, love, laugh and listen to music 🙂

Hi @Jeremy,

The notifications are muted, or the volume of the notifications is very low (like the volume level on the connected device).

Thanks !

Thomas

Hey @moi78690,

Thanks for keeping us in the loop here.

Could we ask you to also share with us the current versions of the Spotify app running on the iPhones, and also the iOS versions of both devices. Also a short video will be very helpful for us to investigate the situation deeper and eventually to give you a better advice.

We'll be keeping an eye out for your reply, thanks!

Anybody find a fix for this?  If you need somebody to continue testing this out let me know.

Hey folks.

Thanks for keeping us in the loop.

As @Kiril mentioned before, we need to check if the app version and OS version are on the latest update. Please include in your response the OS version and Spotify app version you're currently running in your device.

Also, if it's possible for you, try to include a video of the issue to have a better look and guide you better. You can send a link to it or attach it using the Insert Video option in the post editor.

Having the same issue, missing important notifications when connected to the TV through my iPhone using Spotify connect. I get no notifications on my iPhone or iWatch as if they are on mute for notifications. No sounds or vibrate. Using the latest Spotify app version and latest IOS software.

Please fix asap.

Hey @Th4rG3,

Thank you for reaching out to the Community and welcome.

We understand where you're coming from, but we need more information to keep investigating this issue.

Would you mind confirming if you already tried the troubleshooting steps suggested within the thread?

Also, we need to know the exact iOS version and the Spotify's app version you're currently running on your devices. You'll find the process to check the app version here.

I'm having the same problem:

Spotify Version 8.7.20.1724

iPhone ios 15.4

Thank you!

Hey @mammatag,

Thank you for reaching out to the Community and welcome.

We appreciate the device info you shared with us. In case you haven't tried yet, we'd recommend performing a clean reinstall of the app. This is often an overlooked step, but it’s more thorough than a regular one and can be helpful to get rid of any cache that might be causing trouble.

However, in order to give you better suggestions and keep investigating this further, let us know if you tried the troubleshooting steps previously mentioned in this thread. This is to avoid repeating processes that you may have done before with no solution.

Keep us posted.

I am having the same issue on my iPhone 11 ios 15.5.

When I have an incoming call my ringtone is silenced and I keep missing my calls. Spotify silences the music for about 2 seconds and then continues to play. I would like to be able to hear my ringtone for call.

- I have restated the app and also reinstalled it fresh and this does not work. Is this something that can not be fixed?

Hey @stagsold,

Thanks for posting on the Community.

Just to confirm, is this happening with a different mobile device? Also, tell us if this happens with other speakers (if possible).

Changing tunes, send us over the make/model and firmware version of your speaker and check in their settings if there's an option to customize notifications when connected.

We'll be on the lookout for your reply.
