Hey there @hughbob92,
Thanks for posting in the Community and welcome.
In this case, we'd suggest you turn on the Background App Refresh feature for Spotify. To do it, go to the settings of the device, and locate Spotify. Open the settings for the app and make sure the Background App Refresh is toggled on there.
If the above doesn't do the trick, then we'd like to gather some additional info. Please send us:

I logged out and tried another friends account as you suggested. The issue disappeared completely. I listened for over an hour. I then logged back into my account, and the issue immediately resurfaced. So it seems to be tied to my Spotify account specifically.
Hey there @hughbob92,
Thanks for keeping us in the loop!
It's possible this behavior is linked to your account, as you mentioned. In that sense, we'd like to check, does this happen when you open your account on a different mobile device? You can ask for the mobile device of a relative or a friend to open your account there and check. That way we can better isolate this behavior.
If this behavior is not present on a different mobile device, then please send us what we mentioned above:
We'll be on the lookout.
Yes the above did not work.
IOS Version 17.6.1
Model Name: Iphone 14 Pro
Spotify Version: 8.9.76.516
This happens regardless of what I am playing when I am online. However, I just tried going into offline mode and playing something I had downloaded. There were no issues there.
I am having the same issue
Hey folks,
Thanks for your reply and for the info shared.
@hughbob92, since you mentioned a different account is working as expected on your mobile device, we'd like to gather additional information about your account. Just to confirm, have you saved more than 10,000 songs on your playlists and Liked Songs? If yes, it'd be important for us to add some insights.
Keep in mind there's a limit of 10,000 songs that you can save in both your playlists and Liked Songs. Having this limit can ensure the proper functioning of the app. When passing it, it's expected to experience issues as this is one of the limitations. Remember this also would mean you device using more resources to functioning properly.
We'd suggest creating a new account and, if you'd like, you can transfer your library there by following these steps, but always remember what we mentioned above.
@jordanseery, we'd suggest you turn on the Background App Refresh feature for Spotify as we mentioned above.
If the above doesn't do the trick, then we'd like to gather some additional info. Please send us:

Been having the same issue with carplay and using a bluetooth speaker. Also seems to make my battery on my phone get warm. Hopefully this can be resolved ASAP
I have the same problem as nathan0999. It's not because of low battery mode.
App version 8.9.82.628
Hey folks,
Thanks for getting in touch about this.
If you're still experiencing this issue, could you send us all the info @AlejaR asked for previously? Also, make sure you're running the latest update of the app.
We'll be on the lookout.
i have tried all the troubleshooting solutions and mine still crashes, overheats, and drains battery. I have tried logging into a different account on my phone and it still does it.
Device: iPhone 16 Pro
App Version: 8.9.84.543
Hey there @bentindall,

i have tried the clean reinstall and turning off background app refresh. neither of these work.
1. This does not happen with other apps
2. I noticed it started happening about 2 months ago
3. It happens regardless of what im playing
Hey there @bentindall,
Thanks for your reply and for the info shared.
Just to confirm, does this happen if you change the internet connection you're using? Does this happen over WiFi? 3G/4G? Both? Give it a try and let us know if changing the connection makes any difference.
We'd like to continue gathering info:

Are you ever going to sort this out? 10,000 songs might have seemed like a lot in 2009 but you need to drag Spotify kicking and screaming into 2025 already. It’s like I’m being punished for extensively using the service and paying for it for 15 years like a sucker while people who go through burner accounts like toilet paper enjoy optimal functionality.
this issue doesnt occur when im on wifi. it only happens when im not on wifi.
- spotify version: 8.9.86.419
- i logged into a friends account and it still crashes
is there any update here? ive been dealing with this for months with no help and im on the verge of switching to apple music
Any fixes with this yet...Like REAL fixes as in an update to your software that we're paying for.
I have tried all the fixes you suggest throughout the site. Clearing Cache, offloading the app, removing app from iPhone storage i.e. Clean install...worked for like a day....then it started back up again. Tried logging out of my account and logging in with a different account...it still crashes after about 50-60 seconds once it's running in the background like it did before.
I've even tried downloading audio from it for offline listening, and it still crashes.
I didn't have this problem until I updated to the latest Spotify which is 8.9.86.419 (currently on 10/31/24) - it's a real nuisance to have to deal with this, especially when I'm driving around for work trying to listen to music in the background.
It only works correctly on my macbook. pls fix your software that people are paying for.......
