Redeeming Giftcard with student plan

Solved!

Redeeming Giftcard with student plan

Hi, I have Spotify Premium and pay $5 a month for it because I am a student.  Recently I recieved a $30 Spotify giftcard and redeemed it to my Premium account.  However, instead of giving me 6 months of Premium (at $5 a month), it only gave me 3 months (at $10 a month).  Why did the pricing change just because I am paying with a giftcard instead of a credit card?

Hey there @andrew_bennin!

Spotify Gift Cards are applied as "months" not necessarly as monetary amounts. Here's the purchase terms or "fine print" for the USA (it's mostly the same everywhere sold):

Terms and conditions
By using this card/PIN, you accept the following conditions:

  1. This card is redeemable for full price standalone Premium subscription months purchased directly from spotify.com only and cannot be redeemed for discounted or group subscriptions (more on eligibility at www.spotify.com/gift-card).
  2. This card cannot be redeemed for cash or credit and cannot be returned or resold (except where required by law).
  3. In order to redeem the PIN, you must have or register for a Spotify account and you must be 13+ and reside in the US to register.
  4. This is a single-use card: the full face-value for an individual account is deducted at redemption and no incremental redemption or credit is permitted.
  5. Spotify is not responsible for any loss or damage resulting from lost, stolen, or fraudulently obtained cards or use without permission.
  6. Full Terms and Conditions governing Spotify gift cards are found at www.spotify.com/gift-card.
  7. The Spotify Service is governed by the Spotify Terms and Conditions, which can be found at www.spotify.com/legal/end-user-agreement.
  8. This card is provided by Spotify USA Inc.

Spotify, this is a really lousy policy.  Why be so obtuse?  If you sell me a $30 gift card, I should be able to spend $30 on whatever thing you are offering.  I clearly will never buy another spotify gift card - I'll just get cash and spend it in what ever way I want.  This is a terrible example of bait and switch

Hi, as for Brazil I have a question related. We have something that calls "boleto", like a money order type of payment and now is just unavailable and this is the only other option for us here that does not have a card to pay or simply we don't want to share our data. The gift card is a good option but does not work either as we see here for students. Will spotify solve this for us, because it is the most common payment in Brazil and it just disappeared. Could it be send it via email for example, there are lots of ways to solve this issue. Thanks in advance.
