Unable to change country

Unable to change country

I'm unable to change countries after a relocation.

The documentation says to just select the country from the dropdown (this is disabled for me) or to add a payment method in the new country.

I did that but then got a message that the payment method doesn't match the country I'm in.

Right now I'm unable to change my account and it keeps renewing my subscription in Belgium in Euros, and there doesn't seem to be any way to contact anyone from Spotify about this. I hope I can find some direction here.

Hey @cvanlabe,

Thanks for reaching out.

When you update your payment method here, you'll need to make sure to select the right country below the list of payment methods and at the bottom of the page before selecting one.

Let me know how it goes! 🙂

Thanks for your reply. I tried again now using your link and same result.
Doesn’t work… no matter how many times I try to change the country, it
doesn’t change it.
Changing the payment method tells me the country doesn’t match.

Hey @cvanlabe,

Thanks for letting me know.

Just to double-check, are you trying to use a payment method that has been issued in UAE? It won't work if it was issued in a different country.

Yes correct. But the problem is I can’t change both at the same time. If I
change the country it just stays Belgium. If I add a UAE credit card, it
complains about the country. It seems like a bug in the system.

The only reason I can think of being that in Belgium I used PayPal, which
is not a supported payment method in the UAE. I’d try without it but I
can’t find PayPal in my current payment methods. It’s there still I’m sure
but I can’t see it to delete it.

This may be the reason why the country change doesn’t get accepted? I’m
running out of ideas…

Hey @cvanlabe,

Hmm. In this case, it'd be best to cancel your current subscription and wait until it has ended. Once it has ended, you'll be able to change it to the dropdown menu which currently isn't clickable.

You should then definitely be able to use your UAE payment method for subscribing to Premium 🙂

That’s exactly what I’m doing but it sounds like a bad workaround for a bug
in the process and it seems I’m unable to reach anyone from Spotify.

I could actually swear I had already updated it before (because how else
was I able to use Spotify for almost a month already in UAE if it only
allows you to use it two weeks outside your home country).

Hey @cvanlabe,

Premium users can use Spotify outside of their home country for more than two weeks. This restriction only appllies to Free users 🙂

Ok, then either I dreamt I changed it all before, or it failed and I didn’t
notice before. I noticed when I saw an automatic payment happening in
Belgium which was unexpected. Thanks for your advice! To be continued next
month 🙂

I have tried to edit my profile address to my new region (country). Didn't work.
I tried changing my credit card payment to a different card. Didn't work.
My IP address is in the country where I am located.
