ANDROID - Bottom bar not updating song or play/pause button

ANDROID - Bottom bar not updating song or play/pause button

I am using a Samsung Galaxy J7V Android Version 9 for my premium Spotify app. I cleared the cache & data, reinstalled, restarted, and I still don't get the songs to update on the bottom bar. The first song I play will stay there for every song I play and the button for "play" will keep displaying instead of the "pause" button while I play. Even if I change the song, instead of playing continuously, it still will show the first song I chose. If I restart the new song I start off on will show but it will stay on that.

Hey @goddaniel and @amonngs

Thanks for posting - we’re here to help!

Could you confirm if this still happens after you log out from all devices and then log back in? Occasionally this is necessary to force a sync of info between your device and our account system.

If logging out from all devices doesn't help, check if there are any power saving settings or data cleaning apps that run active on your mobile device. Such features can often prevent the app from operating at full capacity. We also suggest accessing the app settings and making sure all Permissions are enabled for Spotify.

Hope this helps. Let us know how it goes.

Same here, Galaxy S10+ One UI 3.1

Cache cleared, data, reinstalled, restarted, permissions all granted, logged out everywhere etc. Excluded from any battery saving

Hey @KrishanP

Thanks for posting on the Community about this.

Just to confirm, do you observe this only when connected to a certain Internet connection? If possible, we'd suggest connecting to a different network (for example, if this is happening when you're connected to 3G/4G, try switching to a WiFi connection).

If it works with another connection, it’d be a good idea to further troubleshoot the original one (for example, by restarting your router). You can also reach out to the service provider of the original network so that they can take a look on their end as well.

Keep us in the loop here.

Hi, I'm having the same problems and have tried the solutions, it happens on all networks that I have previously used Spotify with no problems. I hope this problem can be resolved, it's really irritating

Hey there @Simon-pimon

Thanks for reaching out about this.

First up, it's well worth running a clean reinstall to get rid of any cached files that might be causing trouble. This one is more thorough than the usual one.

If this doesn't do the trick, would you mind logging in to your account in a different phone to check if the issue persists?

We'll be on the lookout.

I've tried reinstalling, logging out, switching network from WiFi to 3g/4g. What I've noticed is that when switching WiFi to mobile data, the bottom bar appears for few seconds and then disappears.

Hey @amonngs

Thanks for getting back in touch.

Just to make sure, is this happening when you're using the Connect feature or only when you're streaming on your phone directly?

On another note, could you let us know if this started happening after a specific event such as an update?

Keep us posted 🙂

Hi Eni

I've done a clean install and tried it on a different phone with the same results.  Thanks for the suggestions though

Hi @Simon-pimon

Thanks for your reply.

Could you let us know if this is happening when you're using the Connect feature?

If it's happening when you're streaming directly on your phone, would you mind sending us a screen recording of the issue happening so we can take a closer look?

We'll be waiting for your reply.

Same issue here, Google Pixel 4a using Spotify Connect (I think) to play through a Chromecast Audio. The issue has been happening for a while, on and off.

I've tried the following which haven't helped:

Turning phone off and on
Clean install
Logging out of all devices from my account on the Spotify website

Same issue here and it's been going on for a few weeks. Really frustrating.

Screen recording attached of me playing a Drake song but the bottom bar showing my last podcast listen (casefile) and not updating.

Not sure if it's connected, but I last listened to the podcast in the car using Bluetooth. The app has been glitching in the car also. Audio turns off randomly (or pauses). When I disconnect or turn off the car, the song/podcast used to stop playing. Now it continues playing through phone speaker! I go to pause and button shows PLAY instead of pause.

For an app I am paying for, I should be able to listen to my music without such interruptions. The issues in the car are especially disruptive as I am driving when it happens.

Hey @thetarabee,

Thanks for the post and the video.

We'd recommend you share that info, along with your phone model, OS version and Spotify version in the Ongoing Issue thread from above.

This will help the teams investigating this.

Cheers.

I'm having the same issue with Pixel 4a. This on the standard App, not connected to any remote speaker.

I tried reinstalling, cleaning up storage and cache, and changing wifis and mobile connection. The bottom bar is just

fixed at whatever I played first after cleaning up storage/cache. Meaning that it grabs correctly the first song, but then never updates.

This is really frustrating. Every time Spotify updates its app everything breaks...

I agree! I will be unsubscribing from premium until this issue is resolved
as it disrupts the listening experience ENTIRELY and is really dangerous
during driving also.

Hey folks,

Thanks for getting back to us 🙂

Could you try with another account on the same device to check if anything changes?

In case you're using an SD card, we'd suggest you remove it, reinstall Spotify and then try running the app without the SD. Sometimes the SD card can lead to issues with the cache.

Keep us in the loop! We'll be right here if you have any questions.

Same issue with Samsung Note 20 Ultra.

A clean reinstall did not resolve the issue.

I have Spotify connect on my phone and my laptop. When playing on my phone, the laptop accurately shows the currently playing song, that it is playing, and the correct time position.

In contrast, Android phone will show the song as not playing (as if paused), will stay stuck on whatever song/podcast from some point in the past, seemingly indefinitely, as well as whatever time position it was at when it got stuck.

EVEN WORSE: This seems to have affected the spotify player controls on the phone's lock screen, as it simply doesn't show up anymore.

These issues appeared sometime within the last month, maybe more recently. Cancellation-worthy level of annoyance, IMO.

I have the same issue on my Pixel 5 but not consistently. About 5% of the time when I change a song/podcast, the bottom bar gets stuck on the old song while the new song is playing. Closing the app and reopening it typically fixes the issue for me, but it is really annoying to have to do so.
