Samsung Galaxy 6 - not moving to next song through bluetooth

Apologies if this has been answered elsewhere but I couldn't see anything similar.

I listen to Spotify via my phone through the bluetooth system in my car. On the S6 (I've just upgraded from the S4), when I use the radio / bluetooth devices "next / skip" button to move to the next track it doesn't do anything. I have to press the button on the screen of my phone, which I obviously can't do when driving.

Is anyone else having the same issue?

Yes. Mine does this constantly. A temporary fix is to switch to another music player (I go to Google Music) and play a song there. Then go back to Spotify and play music again. It fixes itself for a bit, but not permanently. This is a huge annoying bug that will force me elsewhere for music streaming if it is not fixed. Spotify, LISTEN UP! Fix this darn bug.

btw this happens on my Moto X (2014) as well as my wife's iPhone 6, so it doesnt seem to be a hardware issue at all...
