Tracks "Play" but there is no Sound using Bluetooth in a car

I'm trying to connect my phone to my car. Tracks "Play" within the app, bluetooth is connected, but no sound actually comes out of the speakers.

Using a Pioneer headset, Nexus 6P initially. But I've also tried this with my new car and a new phone, Pixel XL. Same problem.

I have a set of Bose headphones. I turn them on, it connects, plays a million songs, I hear them, I'm happy. Then I get back in my car and get frustated again.

The forums are riddled with this issue and have been for several years. Will this ever be fixed?

This has been a problem for many YEARS and continues to be a problem with no apparent real solution.  It's pretty rediculous if you ask me.  I don't understand how this can be a legitimate problem for so many people for so long and still there is no solution.
