App not working on Volvo and Polestar cars

We've gotten reports that some Volvo and Polestars car users are experiencing issues with the Spotify app after an update.

Some mention that Google Voice Assistant control for Spotify no longer works, or the app UI has changed and it is no longer recognized by the car as a safe app for use while driving.

This issue is currently being investigated. We'll keep you posted here if we have any news to share, so make sure to Subscribe to the thread to stay tuned.

 

In the meantime, we suggest giving the workaround mentioned by @FishyFishFish a try:

 

  1. Uninstall the app from each car user profile.
  2. Restart the car system.
  3. Reinstall the app.

Hi, as of today Feb 19 2025 on my2024  XC60 volvo, the spotify app does not work while driving. The app has moved to the section where the games and map apps are and is greyed out while driving.

 

Also the app design changed drastically, the columns are small and on the left and seem to be unoptimized as some of the buttons touch the bottom of the screen. Uninstalling and reinstalling the app does not work. XC60 Android version 12, and Jan 1 2025 security update. Using the native apo, not using the android auto app

Have the same thing since this morning. First the app closed in the middle of the song and was gone from the app picker. When I stopped the car I discovered the app was there but required me to sign in again and launched in what looks like desktop UI (same as your photo). It still works fine on other driver's profile.

Good that I'm not alone! 

 

Hope they will fix this soon, my kids can't comprehend why I can't change to the track they want during driving anymore 😆

 

So changing the sriver profile helped? Will try it, but its probably only a temporary fix

Also I noticed that on your photo Spotify the same as for me changed the section from the second one to the top. I suspect the app is not recognising that it should run in "car mode" and instead opens as a tablet app which prohibits it from being used while driving.

I have the same problem. It's quite annoying, hopefully it can be solved soon.

Since @Knssst has mentioned that reinstalling hasn't fixed this, we'd suggest reaching out directly to Volvo as they handle tech support for the in-car app.

I contacted Volvo directly, but they know nothing about the problem and couldn't advise me. If you manage to fix the problem, please try what I wrote.

Same here just cuts off so you can’t see anything great new update that doesn’t work
