My Question or Issue

On the android version of spotify when visiting an artist page, clicking on the kebab menu icon gives you the following options:

  1. follow
  2. don't play this
  3. go to artist radio
  4. share

And guess what, that button "don't play this" - it doesn't work. I keep getting this awful game remix artist in my release radar called "The Greatest Bits" even though i have specifically selected "don't play this" and have specifically disliked every time it's showed up in my release radar with "I don't like this artist".

On top of this, the "don't play this" doesn't exist on the desktop client at all - and can only be done through the discover weekly or release radar as "🚫 -> I don't like [Artist]".

So, which one is it? Why does this feature not do anything? Why haven't you fixed discover weekly repeats? Why can't I let spotify give me new music? Why does the service insist on sending me artists I hate on a regular basis?

Kthnx, fix this.

EDIT: For clarity - I made this post in response to having this artist appear, and be played, in my release radar - where the feature seemed to not work. However, actually trying to play this artists music gives the regular "please unblock".

Hi @Digamma,

Thank you for reaching out to the Community.

The way the Hide this song feature currently works is that it blocks a certain track from the specific playlist on the current device. The way that Release Radar is set up is that it gets renewed every Friday and counts as a new playlist. Because of this, the songs that you had hidden in the last week might still appear in the new one.

Now, if you have selected "Don't play this" on an artist profile, their songs may still appear as a recommendation but they won't get played. Can you confirm if this is the case, or if the songs still get played?

Lastly, it's correct that on the desktop app the "Hide this song" feature is available only on Discover Weekly and Release Radar. However, other users have asked for this feature to be implemented across all sections and devices.

You can check this idea and leave your +Vote. It will ensure you stay up to date with any relevant updates and information about it.

We'll be on the lookout.

First of all - that's not what the software says, and that's not what anyone wants when they click that. When I see a blue box appear containing the words "Got it. From now on, we won't put [artistname] in your [discover weekly]/[release radar]" I expect that to mean all discover weekly's and release radars. Besides, why shouldn't it be like that when I select an artist to not play again?

Now, to answer your question. The songs are still being played --sometimes--, they still appear in my release radar, and they have been for the past year. I have so many scrobbles on last FM of this damn artist from my release radar, in spite of checking every time that "no, he is in fact blocked". If I then go to the artist, to play him there, then it works - and in artist radios where he appears, it works there too. But seemingly, every time he appears in a release radar, he still gets played
The feature seems to only work sometimes, apparently it shouldn't work as most users desire it to (why not?), and the button is even completely missing on the desktop version of the app.

It's broke, it's been broken for a long time, there's several posts complaining about it as of just a month ago.

So, I can't help but notice that the idea you have listed only barely doesn't qualify for your almost impossible 180 votes every 6 months, because the system you have doesn't merge duplicate ideas. Combined, all individual complaints would have definitely made over 180 votes every 6 months.
I don't know why you do it like this, but to be perfectly frank, the experience is infuriating. Because there can be broken features that aren't fixed because of this godawful system.
