Clicking on album art no longer jumps to the current playlist.

Clicking on album art no longer jumps to the current playlist.

Clicking on the album art for the currently playing song no longer jumps to that song's position in the current playlist. Instead, it takes me to the album page associate with that track. Except it doesn't even take me to the album page as if I had clicked on the track title. Instead, it takes me to the very bottom of the album page. This is not useful in any way, so I'm going to give spotify the benefit of the doubt and assume this is a bug and not a newly introduced feature.

If this is a new feature for some reason, well, I guess we'll burn that bridge when we come to it.

Hey @newdietzrising

Thanks for reaching out about this here in the Community.

We tried this on our end, but we couldn't replicate it.

In this case, we suggest that you try logging out and then logging back in to your account twice in a row to see if that makes the difference.

If the issue persists, it's well worth running a clean reinstall of the app to get rid of any cached files that might be causing trouble.

If the above doesn't do the trick, could you let us know the exact make/model, operating system and Spotify version of your device?

We'll be on the lookout.

After updating Spotify to version 1.2.31.1205.g4d59ad7c, when you click on a song in a playlist, it redirects you to the album/single, not to the position of that song in the playlist. Is it a bug? Or another stupid change?

My Question or Issue

Hi there @03-ckyvl_ivh5,

Thanks for reaching out. Where exactly are you clicking to get this behaviour? So we can look into this further, please send us a screen recording of the exact process. If the files are too large to attach here in the Community, you can send them to us via Google Drive or as unlisted YouTube videos.

Keep us posted.

Hi Joan.

I tell you. If I'm listening to a song and I click on the "Now playing view" panel, it sends me to the album/single. If I click on the little album cover at the bottom left of Spotify, it sends me to the playlist (I just discovered this). In short, depending on where you click, it takes you to one site or another. Before the last update, if I clicked, either on the "Now Playing View" panel or on the small album cover at the bottom left of Spotify, I was redirected to the playlist that contained the song.

Hi folks,

This is part of a recent change to the desktop app that aims to align the Now Playing View's behavior with that of the mobile app: clicking the small album cover in the bottom left corner will expand/collapse the Now Playing View. You'll find the source the current song/episode is playing from at the top of the Now Playing View (just like the mobile app):

Hope this clears things up. Cheers 🤘

Oh, okay. It's part of a test. A change is made without reporting that change anywhere, because it is part of a test. That means that I, with a premium plan, for which I am paying religiously, am part of a test, which I am not informed of and of which I do not want to be part. I pay for a finished product, which I want to work well (less and less on Spotify). If they want to take tests, do them on Daniel Ek's account or on yours. Greetings

I'm having the exact same issue, the problem happens exactly as described.

Is this confirmed a bug and will be fixed or is this a new "feature"? If it's the latter, please revert. If it's a bug, here's my install:

Version (latest from the Windows Store):

Spotify for Windows (64 bit)

1.2.31.1205.g4d59ad7c

My Windows client still works, IOW it jumps to the currently playing song in the playlist.

But the web client shows the problem described by the original poster (jump to the album).

That's bad because it takes away earlier functionality without adding benefit.

So please, Spotify team, don't fiddle with this. Jumping to the playlist at the position of the currently playing song is essential!

I have the same problem, I hope its just a bug and not a new change.

When clicking on the current song's album cover, it shows the album itself instead of the playlist it belongs to, which is how it worked before.

Until yesterday, clicking the small album art in the bottom left corner did take me to the currently playing song. With the latest update (Spotify für Windows (64 Bit) 1.2.33.1039.g8ddb5918), that option is gone, too. Instead it closes the panel on the right.

Please, bring back a button to focus the currently playing song in the current playlist. I don't care how small and where that button is. This seriously impairs the usability of the app.

so true

confirmed, 1.2.33.1039.g8ddb5918 broke the functionality also here. What a shame!

Spotify, please revert this ASAP, that's extremely annoying. Jumping to the currently playing title in a playlist is essential!

The latest update to the Spotify Desktop app for Windows removed a function that I used a lot. When clicking on the album cover of the currently playing song (bottom left corner):

What used to happen:

The main view would switch to the context from which the song was being played. If you were listening to this song from a playlist, it would show the playlist; if you were listening to it from an album, it would show the album; if you added it to your queue, it would show your queue, etc.

What happens now:

The now-playing view opens.

I'm sad that this function got removed as there is no replacement for it. No other button to click to get the same result. Especially when listening to songs from within a playlist (my main way of listening to music), a single click to go to the playlist you are listening to was very useful.

Besides, the now-playing view already had two ways to be opened:

  • Clicking the "expand" arrow that appears when hovering over the currently playing album cover.
  • Clicking the dedicated button near the bottom right corner of the screen.

There have been several changes to Spotify's desktop UI recently that I do not like (e.g. the +button that replaced the heart button and the queue being moved to the side view), but this change has led me to come to the forum as it removed a feature that I have always relied on to navigate the Desktop app.

I wanted to let you know my discontent with the removal of this feature to the otherwise nice desktop application and hope the change can be reverted.

Kind regards

So they turned something that took one click into two clicks for no reason.

Why do you break everything Spotify? This feature is so usefull for us, and with the last update you deleted it. Bring back that feature please! For us that we have so huge playlist, jump into the specific place on a playlist is so important, you have to fix that and bring that feature back!

I don't wanna watch the source where the song is playing, I wanna click the art album and jump to the exactly position into the playlist where the song is playing on in that moment. So you should retrieve back that feature, because is so usefull. I have almost 9000 liked songs, my playlists are huge, so jump in the exactly position is useful for most of the users

So how do we now jump to the currently playing song, or does this change represent regression?

If this is regression of functionality (i.e. no way to jump to currently playing song), will you now be charging me less money every month?

I strongly dislike this change! There is already a button for the now playing view.
