My Question or Issue

Hi,

Up until last month I was able to play music on my Amazon Echo devices but for some reason music does not play back on the devices anymore.

I've uninstalled the skill, reinstalled, restarted the device, updated the device to no avail.

When it attempts to play music on the device, I see that Spotify Connect shows that media is playing on the Echo devices. I can even switch from desktop to whatever echo device I want. Even though it shows this though, the reality is that there is no audio coming out of the device and the echo devices.

During this attempted playback the devices do not show the typical user interface that is shown when music is being played through Spotify (i.e. the Spotify app open on the device).

What is also interesting is that when it tries playing on the Echo device I chose through either the web or desktop app, it only "plays" the music for like 20~30 seconds and then auto skips to the next song in the queue.  Which makes me think it's some communication error between Spotify connect and the device not telling it it's not playing music when it should be.

This is an issue only with Spotify because I can ask Alexa to play Amazon Music for example and it has no issues at all.

I also own a Fitbit Sense and I have the Spotify app installed. I used to be able to control music playing on my phone through the app or ask it to start playing music but for some reason around the same time Spotify connect wouldnt work for my Echo devices this stopped working too. And yes, I also tried restarting, reinstalling, uninstalling all that hooplah to no avail.

Hoping for guidance on this.

Hi there @mirinmirin,

Thanks for reaching out!

Have you tried rebooting your router to see if that does the trick? You can try changing the network frequency to 2.4 GHz / 5 GHz in the router's and/or the Alexa app's settings. Make sure that the network firewall isn't blocking Spotify as well.

If the issue persists, I'd recommend trying with a different network. You can create a mobile hotspot from your phone and connect all devices to it.

Let us know how it goes. Cheers 🤘

Hi @Yordan,

Appreciate the response!

My echo devices are all connected to 2.4GHz network of my router. I've also restarted it multiple times. Even updated firmware.

Whats interesting is your suggestion of setting up mobile hotspot worked. How is this possible?

I noticed when I connect to my 5ghz network and switch back to the 2.4ghz the music starts playing but once it needs to go to the next song that doesnt work anymore.

Had the same issue and was wondering if it‘s related to latest 2 updates of Spotify iOS app.

What worked for me was to open the Alexa app, settings, scrolled down to Music & podcasts, disabled Spotify skill and reconnected the skill again.

Hello everyone,

I managed to find the solution for my problem.

While there are countless approaches to this based off a couple of searches on the internet that vary from reinstalling the app on the device to resetting the device etc. What finally worked with my issue (thanks to Yordan's suggestion) was to mess around with my router.

My router has 2.4GHz and 5GHz and my smart home devices are all connected to the 2.4GHz, I put the broadcast channel of my 2.4GHz router pretty high (13) to avoid interference with the neighbor's. It worked for years but perhaps with an Amazon update or so it just made integration with Spotify connect not work. I change the channel to 10 and suddenly Spotify connect works again.

I havent however fixed my other problem that I had for my Fitbit Sense. It's just I cant control Spotify through the installed app even after I reset my fitbit (factory reset), install and reinstall the app. Should I make a separate thread for this?

Thanks for sharing your solutions folks! Glad to hear you were able to sort it out 😎

@mirinmirin, have you tried logging out and signing in to your account twice in a row both on the Fitbit and your phone? This will force a resync that may help here. Make sure that the Spotify app can run in the background and is allowed data access as well.

Keep us posted on this!

Hi!

Logging in and out twice on Spotify app in the Fitbit device worked. I
never tried doing it twice in a row but I'm surprised that's the trick to
it. I'll remember this for next time! Thank you.
