My Question or Issue

Scenario – I am at the gym playing music from my Android phone to my ear pods. My wife is at home, she asks Google home to play her music. My music stops and Spotify tells me her music is playing on our home speaker. If I change the listening device back to my phone, it stops the music playing at home. Help please.

Hey there @Glenk63, thanks for reaching out to the Community!

Spotify is meant for personal, non-commercial use - that means you can only stream Spotify content on one device, per account at a time. Because you and your wife are sharing the same Spotify account, automatic switching will occur if you attempt to play content from another device, as you can’t listen on both devices at the same time.

There is a Live Idea about the option to disable auto connecting and playing across Spotify platforms. I’d recommend adding your vote and add a comment to show your support - Spotify teams can view the Live Idea internally and you will be notified of any changes / potential implementation after you vote.

A way to prevent this in the future, is to subscribe to Premium Duo - it is one price, for two people. This is a great option if you both want to be on the same plan, but want to listen to music whenever you want without interruptions. You can also check out this page for more information about how Premium Duo works.

Hope this helps!
