Can't pay for subscription due to wrong google account

Solved!

Can't pay for subscription due to wrong google account

My Question or IsIssue

I recently deleted my old email which i used to create my spotify account like a decade ago, i also got a new credit card so i cancelled my subscription so i could switch everything over and renew it, but even though i changed my email to my current one whenever i try to resubsribe i get a message that says "your spotify is linked to a different google account. Switch to the correct google account and try again, or use a different payment method" i'm not sure what this is referring to cause i've been using my new email for it for a while, so it should already be switched over right?

Hey there @DalternateUniverse,

Thanks for posting in the Community and welcome.

Just to clarify, this is not related to the recent change of the credentials of your account, but rather to the payment method you've been using in the account.

The error you mentioned most likely appears when you're using Google to pay for the subscription. It's not possible to add a credit/debit card to pay for your Spotify subscription while using Google as a payment method. If perhaps you subscribed to Spotify using Google in the past, and you'd like to use your new card to pay for your plan, the first step is canceling your subscription.

Since you mentioned you already canceled the subscription, now you just need to wait for your plan to be reverted to free. Afterwards, you'll be able to add your new payment method without inconveniences. You can check your billing date (the day on which your account will go to free) on your account page.

Hope this clears things up. If you have any questions or need a hand with anything else, we're always a post away.
