My account shows a number instead of my name

Hi,

I recently got back on Spotify after having closed my account a number of years ago. Now that I am back on, for some reason, I see an account number in the place of my name when I open the application (please see the attached photo). You'll notice that my name shows in the middle, but on the top right hand corner is that account number I'm referring to. When I copy my profile URL link to share on Facebook for instance, it will show that number again (please see other reference image attached).

Is there any way to fix this? Your help is much appreciated! Thank you in advance.

Hey there @user-removed, welcome to the community!

Let's try to see what's going on. That 10-digit number is your numeric username because your account is connected with Facebook so it's normal unless it changes every time you see it. That being said, usually, in the right upper corner it should show up your Facebook name instead. Are you on the latest Spotify client update? I'd recommend you try a clean re-install and let me know if it still persists after that.

Hi Kate!

Thank you so much for this. I followed the steps for the clean re-install, but I neither have the com.spotify.Client in my Caches folder, nor the Spotify folder in my Application Support. Weird.

What can we do next to fix this issue? I should mention that I had a lot of trouble getting back onto Spotify due to the fact that when years ago I signed up, it was through Facebook, but then I closed my account and subsequently changed my password on Facebook (I don't remember the password I had signed to Spotify with). A friend of mine works at Spotify, and he sent me a unique password reset link, which is what got me back on the platform. This account number issue that I'm having happened right after all of this, so I'm not quite sure what's causing it. I don't want to be connected to FB anymore, so is there a way to start fresh without losing all of the music I have saved in my library?

That's weird that the files are not showing up, indeed. Also, no worries, that's why the community is here for! 🙂

In this case, I'd suggest you get in touch with a member of the Spotify staff directly. You can reach them on social media (Twitter or Facebook) or by using the contact form. Make sure, if you use the latter, to reply to the automated email you'll receive directing you back to the help pages, even if it's from a no-reply!

They should be able to take a look under the hood for you. It's also possible, if you create a new account to ask them to transfer over your music to it.

Support usually gets back within a day or two.
