My Question or Issue

I'm having a weird problem where anytime I log out (intentionally or not) I'm unable to login with my password. I get the "Incorrect username or password" error when attempting to log in. I have to reset my password, which works. Afterwhich it automatically logs me in. All is well until I log out again, then I can't log in until I reset my password. I've done this half a dozen times, now. I've verified my password over and over. I've manually typed the password, tried using a password manager, doesn't matter. The reset always works but I can't ever sign in after logging out.

I've always been logging in with my email address. Didn't realize you could log in with a username. Tried that and was able to log in successfully. (Why are we still using username logins?!).

Thanks for the suggestion. Annoying to have that significant of a bug with a service like Spotify.

Hi there @Leightonius,

Thank you for reaching out to the Community. I have also had that problem when I log out and try to log in and it says incorrect username or password.

This stepped worked for me, try logging in with your EMAIL and not your username to login on Spotify. Where it says Login, put your email in and password. And see if that works.

If that doesn't work I suggest you try a different browser or using incongnito mode. Also, try using a different device.

Hope this helps. Looking out for your replies.

None of the solutions are working for me. I am trying to login with my Spotify account in an android device. It keeps saying incorrect email and password combination.

It happens only for the specific device and works just fine for rest of my devices like laptops and other phones.

Pretty incredible that over four years later you STILL cannot login with your username despite being prompted to enter your email OR username. According to my password manager, I've changed my pw four times over the past year dealing with this.

Such a clear example of a lack of pride in their product and, frankly, disdain for their users. I know that sounds like wild hyperbole, but think about it. If someone pointed out such a fundamental issue in my product, a product with over HALF A BILLION users, and told me that it had been first reported FOUR YEARS ago (at least), and in those intervening four years, neither I nor one of my 15,000 colleagues could be bothered to address this, I'd be embarrassed. How many product managers work at Spotify? How many engineering managers? NONE of them have advocated to fix this in over 1500 days? It's ridiculous and it shows how much we, despite many of us paying over $100/yr for the privilege of using their product, are not considered the actual customers in their business model. We're just the little cash cows they can squeeze to their hearts' content because where else are we going to go?

I know this is a lot of text, but I've gotten so sick of seeing the Big Five and aspirants let their products atrophy because of sheer market dominance. Ensh*ttification at its finest. If you all had a shred of pride in your work, you'd have addressed this ridiculously trivial-to-solve issue (laziest solution that would actually work: REMOVE "or username" FROM THE LOGIN PROMPT) years ago, or, barring that, today. I know better, though, and I won't be holding my breath.

Note, I had to reset my password just now and only to like your comment. I completely agree with you. They are all about the money and they really don't care about the product. This is an issue that occurs since 2021 at least. Do you know how I know about it? I use the last two digit of the year as part of my password since 2021. To log in now and reply to your post I did changed it to 25. Imagine that!
I have received a free Amazon music offer for 5 months and I have to say, things just work as they should. I've moved away from Spotify as in the past they did implement many things which I did not like personally. For example, the login through a browser. I think their Product managers are all incompetents and do not understand their own customers or how a modern UI system works. I do this **bleep** every day for work and I never heard a client asking to implement the login page through a browser. Seriously, what the **bleep** is that?

Still happening to me! Spotify is an absolute shambles!  All fine on Mac, iPhone and browser but the PC app is hideous!

Check your password to see if you have the letter "x" between two numbers. I found that the Spotify web interface and android app both change the "x" to a multiplication sign if it's adjacent to a number. If you click on the eyeball to see your password, you can see the lowercase x move up slightly when the autocorrect changes it.

I've never had a problem logging in before, but just noticed it when setting up a new Android tablet.

Thank you for your suggestion 🙂 I have used the * (star) sign in my password, but this does not work.

i clicked continue with facebook, and it worked!!!! (idk how or why since facebook did not even open!!!! and if it did, i use a different email there!!!!) btw if ur system is obsolete, it will stop working and you have to find a lower version at 1 point... 🤬 i have windows 8 and this. just. happened!! very annoyed🤬🤬🤬
