Issue with the Web Player skipping tracks on multiple devices

We received reports from users having issues with the Web Player skipping tracks after a few seconds of streaming (usually around 10) and occasionally displaying a "Spotify can't play this right now" error.

Hey there,

In case you're experiencing this, try updating your browser to see if that helps. If the issue persists, make sure to give a thumbs up and provide the following info (if you haven't already):

  • the browser you're using + the exact version you're running
  • your OS version
  • the troubleshooting steps you've tried so far

Thanks! We'll pass the details on to our tech folks so they can look further into this.

As always, rest assured we'll keep you posted here as soon as we have any new information to share, so Subscribe to the thread from the three dots menu to stay tuned 👍

Can you please hurry up fixing this? I'm paying for spotify so it would be great if i could use it too, you know?

Since subscribing over 18 months ago Spotify has been mostly reliable. Unfortunately the last couple of months there have been increasing issues. Sometimes being unable to load the web page.

Last few days this problem with tracks only playing for a few seconds each, and after about 5 tracks being skipped, continues to play without any audio.

I am without my spotify service and paying for a subscription that isn't working. This is not great. Please fix this quickly Spotify 🙂
OS - Windows 7 Professional - 64 bit. / Browser - Mozilla Firefox - 115.17.0esr (32 bit)
Rebooted PC, / logged out ad back in to spotify / Updated the browser to the latest 32 bit version 115.17.0esr (32 bit).

I use Chrome Version 109.0.5414.120 (Official Build) (64-bit)

I can't update the browser because versions above that aren't compatible with the Windows 7 OS

And another thing I forgot to mention is that I have a Spotify Free account and even though I can't play any music, commercials do get played.

Also, I couldn't find any entry related to Spotify in my Hosts file

IT's Finally FIXED - and can resume enjoying the music again !!! 🙂
Woah - waited a while in case the faults scame back but web player Spotify has been playing perfectly all afternoon.

Seems Spotify did some code changes the Mozilla Firefox Browser (and other browsers as well by sounds of it), didn't like very much.

Step 1 - Upgraded Mozilla Firefox 32 bit version from an earlier version up to version 115.0.3esr.

'esr' stands for - Extended Support Release'.
These ESR Mozilla releases are to keep the Firefox browser running on the ancient Windows 7 platform.

Version (115.0.3esr) was released (15-Jan-2024)
This made no change !!
Spotify Web Version was still not working.

Then upgraded again from (115.0.3esr) up to (115.17.0esr)
Version (115.17.0esr) was released (28-Oct-2024)
This is browser version is 9 months newer, and less than  3 weeks old as of 2024 11 15 (when this fix was posted).

So possibly (and hopefully) your issue will also be fixed by upgrading your browser to the very latest version 🙂
No idea what got broken, but the plan to Stubbornly Stay With Windows7 (along with the growing millions of other users), should definately be noted by Spotify please?

If the choice comes between W7 and Spotify, huge numbers of users (me included), will be hunting for another music streaming platform.

🙂 Thanks 🙂

What kind of company can't answer the simple question of what versions of Windows and Chrome their PAID  service works on?  Surely this information is available somewhere and I just haven't found it?  We shouldn't have to dig through all that complicated system stuff to figure it out ourselves.

As of today my Win 7 64 bit Chrome Version 109.0.5414.120 (Official Build) (64-bit) is still saying "can't play that song right now, skips to another that stops playing after 10 seconds.  This problem is new in the last two weeks or so.  My win10 laptop using MS Edge connected on my wifi works again.

I think that Spotify itself does not know in which browsers and operating systems its web player works. At the moment, in Windows 8.1, the web player works only in Firefox. In Chrome and Opera, the web player still does not work. I think that the work of the web player in Firefox is not Spotify's merit, so it is too early to say thank you.

I have this issue as well for couple of days now. Have tried to find a solution but nothing has worked.
I use windows 7, Chrome web player and Firefox web player.
Chrome Version 109.0.5414.120
Firefox Verson 115.17.0esr (64-bit)

Pods work fine, but not music.

Help please!

What is your Operating system?
Mine w7_64 bit. If your not on W7, that may be a factor in the Browser not working.

Also - am running 32 bit version - 115.17.0esr.
Possibly uninstall and try the 32 bit version. Sounds crazy but if it works. I never ran the 64 bit version because of problems.

The mozilla website has a download area for firefox version they ever published, so maybe use this to obtain your download and try? Hope that works for you 🙂
