Can't Change Country

Solved!

Can't Change Country

Hello Spotify,

for some reason, I can't change the country where I am currently residing in Spotify. I have been using Spotify Premium which was linked with a PayPal account that is bound to my former address in my home country. Right now, I do live abroad and therefore wanted to change my address by using a credit card from that country as my payment method. That didn't work out as I could add the card but the country was still shown as my former home country in my account. Either way, I decided to have a Spotify Family account together with the people I live abroad but I can't join it as my country is still set to my home country.

In case someone is interested, my main reason to move to Spotify Family is the terribly annoying fact that Spotify kept removing my student status without notifying me so I paid the full price multiple times for several months as I obviously don't check the invoice every time I receive it from Spotify. This is something that could be easily changed with a timely notification mail that asks for re-confirming the student status BEFORE revoking the discount.

tl;dr:

Change my country and notify people if student status expires!

Hey there @murksmurksmurks,

Just jumping in here to add some additional info on top of what @Jose_M already provided:

Once you update your payment details, you will have to wait for the Premium period activated with the previous payment method to end before your country settings change. In short - The changes will take effect from your next billing date. More info on that here

To check when your next billing date is due, we recommend taking a look at this support article.

Hope this helps. Let us know if you have any other questions 🙂

Hello @murksmurksmurks! Thanks for reaching out

As you said, if you have a Premium subscription, you need to pay with a payment method that matches the country you're currently in. You should be able to change your country or region from your Spotify account page. I'd also recommend checking out this Support article for more info.

As far as your issue with the student discount, Premium Student is valid for up to 12 months from the date you subscribed. When the discount expires, your subscription automatically continues at the standard rate for Premium Individual unless you cancel or apply for another year (with a 4 year limit).

Student discount users receive a warning email 1 month before the offer expires. The email includes instructions on how to reactivate the Premium Student and continue paying the discounted price. If you didn't recieve this email I'd suggest checking the spam/junk folders of your inbox, as well as making sure you entered the right email in your account page

On another note, here you can read more about Spotify’s refund policy.

Hey @Jose_M,

and thanks for the reply. I can't change my country in the account page (can't click/is greyed) and the second link you posted is not valid. I assume it tells me to change the country via adjusting my payment method, which I can't do either now as I cancelled my subscription. Either way, as stated above, I was able to change the payment method to a credit card in the country I am currently residing, yet the country of the account didn't change.

Regarding the other aspect, I have not received any of those mails and they were not in my spam folder either. Might look into the refund policy though. I mean it is not a big deal, just annoying.

Thanks for your help and all the best,

Mirko
